i graduated from college at the end of last summer with a degree in business management and one in operations management, but i have spent the last year working full time at a bar and i have gotten to the point where i loath going in there and i think about how i am wasting my life every day. so i need to get a real job or rather something that could be called the start of a career. but i have no idea what i want to do or how to go about finding a job. so how did all of you get into your career and how did you go about looking for a job. i really am totally lost so any advice wold be appreciated
did you get your MBA or your bachelors? geez 25 is a bit late for a bachelors though. You should start by applying for internships or full time positions at various firms to see what it is you want to do in life. Internship have helped me a lot in deciding what I want and most importantly, what i DON'T want to do all my life.

check out some local job fairs if they have them in your area, or you might even want to look at craigslist to see who is hiring and drop off your resume.

Bug your old professors about any jobs they see; talk to all your friends who already have jobs; ex-girlfriends are also a very important source of finding jobs since they often "go to bat" for you a bit harder than friends do; check your career center; talk to your neighbors; join a couple clubs for the covert purpose to creating a network (for example, a bicycle club has a bunch of older yuppies in contrast to the younger trailer crash that rides motorcycles).
Well now that you have your degree, what kind of business do you want to work for? Would you like to manage in a company that makes golf balls or would you rather be in a company that does customer service. That’s where I think that you need to start by finding your "niche" in business.
For me, it all started in high school. I took a drafting course my freshman year and excelled in it and really enjoyed it. When I moved to a smaller town, there was no drafting course so I looked into a youth apprenticeship program in engineering which got me working with a local manufacturer doing drafting. After HS, I continued working with that company and then went on to college to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Well, I never made it to the degree, but I have changed companies and am currently a designer/drafter and am going to school part time to get that damn degree.
Basically, I wouldn’t limit yourself because of the type of degree that you have, I’d try to compile different areas of work that interest you. You obviously enjoy bikes, so then I’d put all local bike dealerships on your list along with motorcycle repair shops. The next step would be what you actually want to “do”. Would you like to be the guy selling the bikes to people, or would you rather be the guy that gets part for people? In the long run, you should set up a plan to see where you want yourself to be in 10, 20, or 60 years. If you want to be renting an apartment living paycheck to paycheck, your choices are quite open, but if you want a nice house with a wife and kids, it’s best to figure how much money you’ll need to be making and then start looking into a lot of jobs that meet your criteria until you find one that pays right and the people are good. There are a lot of choices out there, so don’t sell yourself short.

now that is the question you should really be asking....
my advice is to NETWORK!
then network some more. then finally network some more.
if that doesnt work, you can always go to a Staffing Agency.
i never thought it would be a good idea, but it really is. they found this job im currently at.
its their JOB to find YOU a job. its awesome. they'll call you up and tell you what openings they have that would fit with you, and you can accept it or not.....
