Yep that is so true, when I had my Ford Explorer for some strange reason it would make people talk to me at the pump as if I cared to listen to them. They always would bitch while pumping gas into their 35 Gallon Pickup truck...I would say nothing and leave only to laugh at them to myself. If it is that hard on that guy who does not NEED the pickup then he should sell it and get a car...LOL I never once complained about filling my Explorer even when gas was at $3.50 a gallon for a short time.

I do feel for the guy that makes a living driving a semi, pickup truck or large van. For those that do NOT NEED those vehicles they should be driving econo cars otherwise I do not feel you have a right to whine about gas prices.

I have a bike and an '87 Subaru GL 1.8L, I'd like to think that 30+ MPG is pretty efficient.

And I'm going to bitch about gas prices as well.

convert a car to run on vegatable oil. Get used oil free from McDonalds, drive car that smells like french fries for around a dollar a gallon.

If you all want to bitch then I think it is O.K. as long as you bitch at the right people. It is not the oil companies who control the price there are a lot of factors that go into this equation. Our government not letting us build more refineries and drill in places in our own country were oil and gas are promenent. So if you want to bitch write your democrat's who are holding us back as a country and making us depend on other countries for gas and oil.

You are correct. ExxonMobil made $39 billion in profits last year. Instead of bitching, smart people buy their stock. I made alot of money off ExxonMobil stock this past year and it's still going up. My profits from their stock offset the prices at the pump. Oh, yea, I also work for them.

I'll have to agree, I've made alot of money off ExxonMobil stock. I as well work for them, have for 22 yrs.
But I don't think we're going to change anything, even if you don't buy gas for a day. You did know that taxes are almost 1/2 of the price and in some states it's more.
I pay the same price as everyone else, don't like it. But not much we can do about it.

I only ride my bike. I'll start bitching at gas prices when they hit about $4.50+.

Oil prices go up if a mouse farts beside a oil rig... GREED of the oil companies is what drives prices up..Ok the consumer needs to get to work and trucking companies have to move goods from here to there.. OIL CEO/ BOB lets raise prices again because i really want that new $5Million dollar home and cash talks.

Opec/ragheads control the oil reserves, how much they will pump out and at what price.. federal gas tax is .60-$1.00 of every gallon.
Last business quarter the oil companies made " profits" in the 100's of millions/can we say monopoly?

True. Such is the nature of futures trading with a critical global commodity.

False. Demand (and taxes) is what drives prices up.

Oh please. Always easy to blame the evil rich CEOs, they're a convenient scapegoat, huh?

Oh Noes! Profits! How evil! You prefer a state owned and controlled oil industry, perhaps? Hugo Chavez, anyone?

Pretty much we are fucked when it comes to gas no matter what the consumer does. The people that owns the keys to the golden doors are only looking out for their bottom line.

I think we are only permitted to buy processed fuel from 3 refinaries and until they produce more processed fuel or build more refinaries that we will be permitted to buy from then we are at their mercy.

It's amazing the myths that propagate so easily throughout the US.

Some truths for you all:

- One day boycotts do nothing. Supply and demand are not affected by a one day boycott - gasoline consumption is global.

- Boycotts of one company or another do nothing - most gasoline is regional and comes from the same refineries (which are owned by guess who?)

- Less than 30% of our oil comes from the Middle East. The Middle East turmoil has nothing to do with OUR gas prices. Fact: Canada is our largest foreign oil provider.

- We still, by far, have some of the cheapest gasoline in the world. The Canucks pay for their own gasoline by the liter.

- This is the hardest point to get through idiots' heads, because of the huge number when you look at amount of profit: Oil companies make a minuscule profit margin. That means it's not a very good business to be in, because you don't make that much profit compared to what you spend. It's around or less than 10% profit margin.

In comparison, this is a list of good businesses:

http://www.boston.com/business/globe...rofitable.html

However, I will disagree with you on one thing F&D - CEOs are not worth anywhere near what they're paid. Contrary to the belief of their shareholders, C-level execs don't shit gold. We're the only country in the world that treats our C-level executives like that - and it's just plain wrong that C-level execs make 531 times what their average employees make (with the exception of those that started their own companies and remained chairmen).

I'm supposedly on the career track for these types of positions - and I don't know if I could accept any of them... I'm simply just opposed to the way that the folks that actually do the work are treated in comparison. And I certainly wouldn't make any friends if I were a VP of a large corporation - I'd fire a ton of dead weight
