But a doctor can't say I'm going to plant coke on you and lock you up for 10 years can he? In fact, if you were to try to defend yourself it would be assaulting a police officer and you are screwed just as bad. Don't defend yourself, the above happens. Joe bob around the street doesn't have that power. NO ONE else has that power but police officers or other enforces of the law.
That being said, WE give them these powers. We don't live in communist china. There simply is no win/win situation here.
I hope that woman recovers and her family, I literally cannot fathom what I'd do if that happened to a family member of mine. Well, I have one idea of what might happen.

I agree with a lot of what you said
Only thing I don't agree with is that the general citizen has more powers than we do. We do have citizen's arrest that people can enact but no one does because they call the police to be their "muscle" and take care of their problems. To be honest....a cop is the same as a citizen with the difference being we are trained for these types of things and have the necessary equipment.
To give a sample of how a private citizen has even more powers than the police: I am chasing someone on foot that just shot and killed someone, the suspect and I exchange gunfire but the foot chase continues, I chase them around the end of a duplex and I see a door shut. At that point my chase stops since I did not witness the person enter the building I must get a subpoena before I can go in. Now a private citizen in the same situation does not have to have a subpoena and go right on into the residence. Who has more power in this situation?
