I bought a TV from them a couple of years ago and paid about 400 for a protection plan. My TV broke, I submitted my claim, Never heard anything from anyone, so I called back. They gave me the repair guys phone. Called him. He said he rejected the claim. Called CC back. They said they submitted it with another. Called him. He rejected the claim. Called CC back. They said they were working on an exchange. It would be another 7-10 business days. Waited the 10 business days. Called back. They said they would look into it. They would get back to me in 24hrs. Waited 24hrs. Called back. New girl said she would look into it "personally" and it she would get back to me in ,,,,,,24hrs.
This has been going on for a month. All I want now is my money back. I don't want to buy crap from them and have to deal with this again. I am contacting the BBB now.
Beware. If this is the kind of service they offer with their "protection plans" you are better off without.
I would like to not shop there, but I think they are going to authorize an exchange(if it ever fucking happens). I told them I just wanted my money back due to their inablity to perform on the contract, but we will see where that gets me. I will let you know how it plays out....in 24hrs
I bought an Extended Service plan from Sears for my ceramic rangetop. Before I paid for it I explicitly asked the Sales Guy if I dropped something on the range and cracked it would it be replaced free of charge. He said Yes.
Well my wife dropped something on it and broke the edge off. I called for service and they sent a guy out. He wanted to charge me $400 for the new range top. I said hell no and told him he better figure out how to write it up to give me a free one. Eventually he relented and wrote it up as a defect and replaced it free. It may have been the fact that I told him he wasn't leaving with out replacing my top.
These service plans are a ripoff most of the time. If you complain loud enough, they usually relent.

Thats the problem right there, you cant ask the sales guy anything about these contracts. They dont know or they do and will lie anyways. I work for the Ford extended service plan and I can even begin to tell you how many owners I have call on my line (which is a Dealer only line) asking why I wont cover the pant on their "bumper to bumper" warranty. I end up having to tell them that while the contracts are rather inclusive they are far from bumper to bumper. And making noise wont make alot of them relent if you signed a contract. Thats what I fall back on all the time, We have a signed contract that explicitly states what is and is not covered.
Not saying you are or were in the wrong, just to be careful with sales jockeys.

Thats what you get for buying a protection plan, lol. They're scams. Manufacturer warranties should cover everything. Personally, I've never had anything "break" other than those cheap stereo minisystems cd players. All my other electronics have performed flawlessly.

Same here.
The only thing I've had break was a $20 MP3 player that I got from Target or Walmart or something.
All of my higher end electronics have worked and lasted longer than I could've expected...
...well, I guess my car stereo stuff was always frying, but that was my doing...1 ohm stable amps aren't meant to be run at 1/4 ohm for very long...hahahah

You are so true on all of this. However, there are gray areas that they will relent on...a paint job is pretty much not covered under normal wear and tear...But on something like my range top, we could say that it overheated and broke...it would take an expert to determine what exactly happened.
I had a laptop that i bought from Circuit City a few years ago. Because the thing was so expensive, I bought the extended service plan.
Long story short, I dropped it, (for which the sales clerk said was covered under the service plan) and it needed service, I had to send it to texas to be worked on because thats where Circuit City sends the laptops. I sent it and it came back within the week not fixed. They denied my claim, telling me someone had done some unauthorized work on it. That was total B.S. and a way to get out of the contract.
I called the store, talked to the manager, said he would fix, did not.
I called the regional office, said they would fix, never heard from them again.
Called Corp. in Richmond, said they would fix, never called back.
Called store manager back, would not return my calls.
I sued them in small claims court for not only the cost of the protection plan, but for the price of the laptop. I sued for the maximuim allowed, I think it was $1500.00 and the price of the proctection plan was $400.00 so i was right at the 2k limit for small claims.
Circuit City would not talk to me about a settlement before the court date, but day before they wished to refund my protection plan. I said HELL NO.
Went to court, only a stupid chick assistant manager showed up to defend against the lawsuit, ( being small claims they could not send attys) and she completely made my case for me by her incompetence. I had dates, names, times etc... and she had nothing.
I won a 1900.00 judgement and Circuit City paid me cash at the store the next day.
I will never buy a consumer protection plan, it is a scam, and all profit for the store, and I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CIRCUIT CITY AGAIN EVER.
My dad bought a Chevy truck some years ago and the painted started getting "fish eyes" in it. Warranty was lapsed but he took it in anyways. After about a week of dealing with management at the dealer they finally called in the GM rep who came out to inspect it. First thing he said was "there was rust on the metal when they painted it" boy did he make a grave mistake!! My dad cornered him instantly with "you mean to tell me you guys painted metal that had rust on it and then sent it out to the market???" Needless to say, they re-painted the hood for free and told him as long he owned the truck and the paint started to have problems they would repaint the entire thing.

Officer you are correct in that, If the warranty has lapsed (were talking warranty not service contract (unless you are in Florida)) then you are better off to deal with managers or a customer service rep, not the service contract as they are bound by the contract that was signed regardless of what a salesman says.
