I picked up a Taurus PT145 a month or so back at a gun show, paid $340 for it out the door, got home, looked it up, and found out it retails for about $500, I was pretty happy about that =)

You get what you pay for, I'd never trusy my life with a cheapo gun. There is something to be said for the 2 guns that over 96% of Law Enforcement depend on to fire every time Glock and Sig, Glock holds the majority, while sig is found in the departments with deeper pockets, most of the feds use Sig 226 or 229

I dunno about that line of thought. I've owned three SKSs - each bought for less than 100 bucks- and maybe had one jam for thousands of rounds fired. That was when a casing popped up and fell back into the action.

I also own an East German model Makarov (at my parents' house in the States) and I've found it to be a reliable and accurate little gun. I got it for $149.95 with an extra mag and a leather military issue holster. Everyone who shoots it loves it and several of my friends have purchased them after shooting it.

That said, I'd want something reliable with a good repuation like a Sig if I was a law enforcement officer, but for around the house and Sunday afternoon target shooting I'm happy with what I've got. They're mostly just toys anyhow. If I wanted a home defense weapon, I'd pick a shot gun.

That's a good price. Enjoy. Now get your butt out to the firing range!

I would get out to the range, but I have to wait seven freaking days!! Argh!

For home defense, we bought a used remington 870 last week. Had an issue with the extra rounds not feeding into the chamber after firing/pumping, but after putting about 5 rounds through it, it started working fine. We figure it may have gotten stuck because of sitting at the store for who knows how long.

The army uses Colt, but remember, your equipment was made by the lowest bidder.

I'm going to the range in a week or so to try out a few different types of pistols before I make my final decision. I'm looking for a pistol myself. I'm glad the people at the shop-range are letting me try a few different types of pistols, I think it will put more faith in my decision.

Tom.

I took a basic handgun safety class at the local range and it was GREAT. Not only did I learn the basics, I got a chance to shoot five different calibers - .22, 9mm, .38, .40, .45.

That's a good gun and sounds like a good deal on that EEA. As someone mentioned earlier, it's based on
the very well designed CZ75. One of the best handguns ever made.
Enjoy it for years to come.

BTW - I carry a Sig 229 in 357sig, and .40S&W thanks to the spare barrel given to me by FAZR6.
I carry a Makarov on occasion, a Ruger GP100 .357 and usually a North American Arms .22magnum 5 shot
for deap concealment, and anything else I can get my hands on.

imho a 12 guage is best for home defense if u have loved ones. The buck shot will tear someone up but not penetrate drywall potentially harming the lil' youngsters, while a 40 cal is nice be very careful where u shoot in a tense situation
