Death Penalty
For or against?
Personally I think a bit sadistic on this. The punishment should fit the crime. If you shoot someone in the head...BAM bullet in yours
If you stab someone 126 times guess what buddy??? You're gonna get stabbed.
Plus it cost the American tax payer 40 or 60K a year to house an inmate. Money that could be better spent somewhere else.
Who is for it and who is against it?

I believe in an eye for an eye, however...................
I also believe that torture is a much better punishment than death. I say if you kill somebody, then you should have your fingers cut off at each knuckle once a day. After the little piece is cut off, they should sew it up, so you don't bleed to death, and then cut off the next part the day afterward. Make the motherfuckers suffer for what they did. Don't just let them breathe some gas and then all of the sudden, they're gone. Make them think about and regret their actions. Just my .02

I voted for it.. however... I think you better be damn sure, without a doubt that the person commited the crime...
how many convictions have been over turned with DNA test and whatever...
So yeah if your 100% sure they commited the crime...the off to hell with them

I don't think it's more humane to lock someone up for the rest of his life than to execute him. So if someone commits a crime so horrible that we could never allow him to return to society...

I think that the death penalty is a good thing, although it currently sucks dick.
It definately needs to be reformed to be effective. If they know for sure 110% that you killed someone, and did so willingly and with criminal intent (ie it wasnt self defense) then you should automatically get the death penalty. There shouldnt be excuses, oh well I listened to ozzy osbourne music so I just killed someone... or I played grand theft auto so it must be societies fault not mine... no no no! In my opinion if you murder someone, then you should have just signed away your own right to live by doing so. A murderer in my opinion has no right to live in society, or anywhere else for that matter.
People who are convicted, and sentenced to death, should be put to death. Why the hell would the general public pay like 2 million bucks to keep a mass murderer on death row for 30 years before he finally dies of old age? Why even sentence to death and go through 100000 appeals if you arent gonna wax the fucker? Guilty, convicted, sentenced... ok your gonna die next week.. thats the way it should work.

Some interesting facts I read was. It cost 3.8 million dollars to house and excute someone....but only 600,000 for someone to serve life imprisonment?? I don't know how that is possible
Also it cost on average an additional 48% MORE for a trial when the death penalty is involved
Has anyone seen "The life of David Gale" with Kevin Spacey? It's about the death penalty and the faults of it. If you get a chance highly recommend it.

I say kill them without a doubt and I don't know why we even have a death row. They can just use the inmates as target practice instead of the posters. Saves money and we can get the job done fast. Seriously why are there people on death row? Once you get the death penalty you should be shot the same day. Its very simple.

The Death Penalty Claims Innocent Lives
Since 1973, over 100 people have been released from death rows throughout the country after evidence of their wrongful convictions emerged.
Examples of wrongful convictions:
In September 1999, Charles Munsey died in a North Carolina prison. He had been imprisoned for six years and sentenced to death for a crime to which another man had confessed. Shortly before his death, Munsey had won a new trial.
In October 2000, Earl Washington received a full pardon following DNA testing that exonerated him of a rape and murder charge for which he had spent 17 years in prison in Virginia. Washington, who has mild mental retardation, came within one week of execution in 1985. In 1993, his death sentence was commuted to life. He was finally released from prison in February 2001.
In January 2000, Steve Manning was exonerated in Illinois, when prosecutors announced that they were dropping all charges against him and no longer planned to retry him for the murder for which he had been convicted. He was the 13th death row prisoner found to have been wrongfully convicted in that state since 1977. During the same period, 12 other Illinois prisoners had been executed. Mr. Manning's exoneration led Illinois Governor George Ryan to declare an immediate moratorium on executions.
In April 2002, Ray Krone became the 100th prisoner to be released from death row since 1973. Mr. Krone spent 10 years in prison in Arizona, including time on death row, for a murder he did not commit. DNA testing finally proved his innocence.
Factors leading to wrongful convictions include:
- Inadequate legal representation
- Police and prosecutorial misconduct
- Perjured testimony and mistaken eyewitness testimony
- Racial prejudice
- Tainted jailhouse "snitch" testimony
- Suppression of mitigating evidence and misinterpretation of evidence
- Community pressure

Well, if the accused is in fact guilty then yes I believe in the death penalty.
And I think they should come up with a new system (no more gas chamber, lethal injection, firing squad, etc.). They need to do it like Man on Fire...C4 UP THE ASSHOLE!!!!
lol, that part rocked!
I think our legal system has a lot of bugs so I wouldn't be suprised if the death penalty has in fact claimed many innocent lives.
Sucks.

I guess death penalty should only be given if its beyond a resonable doubt with DNA etc... I still say it should be done ASAP and not wait on Deathrow.

I've got one better.
I am willing to pay for 20 years of cumulative prison time. 2.5 years for this, 5 years for that, but after a lifetime cumulative total of 20 years is served, they take you and ice you.
