Default Where can i get a decent FREE antivirus program?

I think I have some kind of virus on my computer, every time I start it up my computer goes directly to the "my computer" folder, and also this system 32 folder opens up.

I think its from a virus.. but im not sure.

Anyone know of a good program that I can use to try and fix this problem?

Are you military or have any friends who are? If so we can get Norton (the commercial version for large businesses) for free, with free lifetime updates. Been using it for about the last 4 years. Just have to go to the systems people and ask em for it. Tell em that sometimes you take work home and you don't want to infect anything on their network. Perfectly legal free software.

probally won't fix your problem, but go to download.com and pick up adaware. It's free and will save you from a bunch of adware/spyware.

also, depending on your version of windows, go to run then type 'msconfig' then click on the startup tab. you'll see all the programs that startup when you boot your computer.

hope it helped.

I'd be willing to bet you're running W98 (if I'm wrong, kill me alright)...I've seen this problem but I don't want to make things worse by telling you how to possibly fix things in msconfig

Eitherway, get yourself a AV program right away. I hear stories/see first hand all the time how someones computer is all fubar'd and they don't have an AV program...they're inexpensive and everyone should be running one on their computer.

Go to Sams Club/Cosco and you can usually get Norton AV for around $25 or go to Google and type in "free anti-virus" and you'll get a number of other options in addition to AVG.

Also check out Symantec's Trialware Center for a free trial of Norton AV and their other products.

Good luck!

You could just download the one year Norton AV trial and reformat once a year.

Norton is the WORST thing in the world to put on a computer. Its a HUGE resource hog and its company owner just so happens to be the idiot that was responsible for unleashing the first virus onto the internet. He then put his antivirus software up for sale the next day..... Any Norton product is a pice of shit. Class action suits are underway and will probably end its facade.
