are wisdom teeth supposed to hurt no matter what when they're coming in? i have straight teeth, but every once in a while my wisdom teeth will hurt like hell for about a day then stop. i know not everyone has to have em pulled, but i am gonna get em checked out sometime soon.

If they are coming in straight you shouldn't have any pain at all. It's only when they are coming in odd and they push on existing teeth or gum lines
Definitly get it checked out

Usually they hurt.. thats why the dentist usually removes them before they come in... even if you have straight teeth.

They can hurt even if they come in straight. If there isnt enough room for them then they will put pressure on all the rest of your teeth. I just got the news today that I need mine out. Luckily I only have the top two and its usually the bottom two that cause the most pain.

Yeah, usually people get them out before they start hurting. Since you said that you get pain once in a while, i would definately go see a dentist.

If you have straight teeth, but not enough room for the wisdom teeth, then once they come in you won't have straight teeth anymore. The wisdom teeth with move the others around as they force their way in. Best to have a dentist take a look and see if they should come in or if your mouth's big enough to handle them. (And don't take the advice of ex girlfriends or parents. They're all likely to say you've got a big mouth no matter what.)

Get 'em removed if you can, they really don't serve any purpose.

When mine started comin in, I had them taken out ASAP. It's just uncomfortable, so the sooner they come out, the better. And if your parents have dished out the cash for braces like mine did, def. get them out soon.

I personally only had a problem with one. My lower right wisdom come in kinna funky and eventually became infected. It hurt like the dickens and made my entire right side of my face swell. I looked like I had the shat beat'n outta me. I went to the Dentist on an emergany and all they did was give me some novacaine and ripped the puppy out. It felt SO good when it was out. But I can tell you, when I got a dry socket?!?!? it hurt worse then the damn tooth...

I had mine taken out about 14yrs ago so it may be different. But afterward they placed some very awful tasting medical dressing where the teeth used to be and doped me up on some medicine. I was out for two days or so. I'll never forget the taste of that awful medicine

I had my wisdom teeth cut out about ten years ago. They put me under completely, so I don't remember much about it. I remember my mother and the receptionist walking me to the car, and I remember vomiting on my shoes and telling the receptionist that she was, "a really nice lady."
The doctor gave me pain medication afterwards. I don't remember what they were, but they knocked me out. I fell into the trap where I didn't eat because I felt sick, then I got sick because I didn't eat.
From what I remember, my teeth would start to come out and just break the skin, then they'd hit the other teeth and be stopped. After a day or two of this, the wisdom teeth would retreat back down and wait a few weeks before attempting to come up again.
