snatching a vid for an avatar

Ok I work on bikes not computers so someone tell me how to snatch a clip and put it on my avatar.

Also wanted to know if anyone knows how to capture a vid that plays from the source and it doesnt offer to save target. I want a pic of a cartoon pornstar so I can airbrush it on my helmet but I cant find any freeze pics let alone the one I want.

If you have dvd software on your pc like power dvd you can use the capture frame mode and choose where to save the frame for later editing with the frame. Hope this helps.

OK.. to put a vid on your avatar, you will need to convert the video into an animated GIF using a GIF animation software.. you might be able to download a free or trail version from www.download.com ..most of the time you have to use an .avi file as the source.. so if you download a wma wmv file, you will have to convert them before you do anything else. You can also download a video converter from download.com

If you just need to freeze pic.. try pressing the "print screen" then go into your paint program, and click "paste" ..then crop the picture.. (and there's programs out there that lets you bypass those type of features too.. I'm sure download.com have some.

Thanks for that bit but can we make it more idiot proof. For doing the print screen are you talking about just clicking on the pic while the clip is moving? Have no idea what your talking about. I had to be talked thru finding the yahoo messenger and making it work right.

I use a computer for very little. Tuning fuel injection, checking email and stupid stuff like that. I didnt even know that I could resize my pics of my new digital camera till japbike told me how to.

Next I need someone who can build websites, someone good that can use the flash media. I want to build a few good web sites for the different stuff I do. Bikes, Pitbulls, snakes and stuff. I might also be having one made for someone else

where do I get power dvd? and would it work on a web site that uses flash animation. This isnt a conventional cartoon its more like an X-rated game. it is cartoon but lets you choose the path you want to go. I bumped into it a long time ago and tried to just video record it with a cam corder but the lap top screen doesnt project to the lense very well. I need a clean pic to copy it. I havent been airbrushing long enough to do it "free hand" by memory. I need a pic I can put on my projector. you throw it on the projector and "trace" the image with the airbrush. this is another reason we airbrushers like white helmets.

No.. there is a "Print Screen" key on your keyboard
1) When the image you like appears, press the "Print Screen" button.. usually located next to "Scroll lock" and "Pause/Break" key
2) Go to Programs>Accessories>Paint
3) Go to FILE>EDIT>paste
4) Crop the picture and save it to your hard drive or print it

For your first website, you might want to hold off on FLASH for now. There are many software out there that can walk you through building a website.. go to this site and get some ideas..

and on the website thing, I wasnt thinking of doing it myself. I am looking for someone to do it for me. I need a modern site and all I really want is for someone to build it and keep it up maintenance wise for me. Dont really have a lot of experience in that area and I have so much time invested in the bike thing I dont need the hassle of trying to get it in my head. I think in geometry and engineering formulas not 1's and 0's. Didnt ever get exposed to the computer thing until about six years ago. I know, its pretty sad but the trade off was being able to travel around the world with race teams. I didnt get to see much but the experience is worth every minute of living under the rock I was under

Another thing you can do with the flash files is get a little progam called SWFMagic, you can take a swf file and turn it into stills, extract mp3 audio out of it, or turn it into a movie.
