Racing replica plastics or paint used ones ??
I was looking at new fairings on ebay and came across these... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...photohosti ng
nice, but pricey!!!
or I could get some used ones peel off the decals and have everything painted one color. only problem, is that I dont know how much it would cost to have everything painted at a decent body shop. anyone have any hook ups at body shops in the cary area ?? I would have it painted a candy blue. lots of pearl. I had my old car painted that color and loved it !!! anyway, any suggestions ??
EDIT:: just found these and figured I'd bid on them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...spagenameZWDVW
figured id prob end up spending about $100 or more for each used piece after shipping and all. then pay about $100-$300 for painting the special color i'd want. so thats say $300-$500 for used plastics and $400-$800 after all said and done. about the same as the others which are less hassle and look hella cool.... any ideas?? what would you do ?? thanks guys.

that sounds like a fair estimate. I actually have everything to do a paint job, except time...

Larry Estes Body Shop in Garner NC off 50 HWY. Call and ask for CC, he does their paint. He quoted me $300-350 if you take the peices off and then take them to him. And from what I've seen he does a great job. And no one stage Macco BS!

he must be using some shitty brand paint, we do custom work at the bodyshop i work at and only use ppg paints. for paint alone when i did my car all over was about 1500 bucks, but that also included clear. that doesn't cover the cost of prep, painting or finishing.

I'd stay away from those plastics. 2 problems with them.
1, They're located in Hong Kong. Expect several weeks before you get them. If they don't fit right, or you get the wrong ones, it'll be a HUGE pain in the ass to return them.
2, They will NOT fit right. I used an aftermarket front fairing on my F4i, and it was CRAP. I think it was a Shark Skins nose, but nothing lined up just right, some of the bolt holes weren't drilled, and some of the tabs cracked or broke off altogether when it was installed. Absolute garbage. Since those fairings above aren't even a name brand, I'd expect them to be far worse.
There's a guy on ebay that, every few weeks, will put a complete set of used OEM plastics. Normally they sell for about the same price as the ones in your links, and it includes the tank as well. All the sets I saw, the plastics might have had a scuff or a scratch, but otherwise appeared in great condition.

yeah, don't get those plastics. get OEM or a name brand fiberglass fairings. Karl has them on his 600rr and it doesn't fit right and looks like ass. Sorry Karl...
usmcasa - we aren't painting a car and the surface area on a bike is far less so the cost of materials is much less. I can probably get 4-7 full sets of fairings painted with 1 gallon of paint and material depending on color. Clear coat is the most expensive material, unless your getting a custom color(s). Prepwork will dictate how good your paint job will look. You can do pro-looking paint jobs with rattle cans, but the amount of time and work is like 3x more.

when i say the paint job is $1000+, that means two tone or more, with graphics being cleared in. if you just want one color or a custom one color and your plastics are new(no damage what so ever) and have all your decals and sticky resin removed already before brought to us maybe $400-750 for an all over paint job. my bike with the design that is on it(which is paint and not vinyl) took the most time and materials taping off the design. when jobs come in like that we charge by the hour so if you want it too look nice its not going to be cheap. yes you can paint for less but you won't have a paint job that equals out to what we do.

the best estimate based on the time involved(here is where it will kill your wallet), materials used(not alot, but it still costs something), and vinyl on my race replica came out to be roughly 1200-1400.
You could go cheaper on the vinyl, but die cut graphics up front suck to clean the bugs out of, trust me when I say go printed vinyl for complex designs up front.
Now if it was all one color and just graphics, awesome, you'll save a TON of money. If you have any colors that run from one piece to another...... I won't even begin to tell you how long that shit takes to get it lined up close, not perfect, but close, and how much of a headache that shit is. No one I know that runs a reputable body shop will ever (read EVAR!!!!!!!!) charge you 3-500 for a race replica paint job. Should they actually do that, and you actually get it out the door for that, I'd either check to make sure the paint doesn't peel, there aren't runs, the lines match up. That said, if all that is good, then I'm sure the shop will be like.... "WTF, we lost our asses in that one." and probably won't be doing another so cheap.
By all means, take it where you can find the best price, but I want to see it when its done

I forgot to mention, Tony's Paint and Autobody doesn't paint race replica's with rattle cans. Though I'm not sure how that would look either.
