Default To the guys from the 7/19 ride thru cary....

Sorry guys,,,, i feel horrible as well as really embarrassed, for ruining the ride it was gorgeous outside. Im not really new to riding, ive been riding over a yr and in MD i would take turns like crazy, but i knew them like the back of my hand. but being an adult and mature i can admit i was probably trying to over ride on unfamiliar roads, i think what happened was i thought i felt the bike start to slip so i got scared and over corrected myself and hit the brakes in a turn, big no no. and the rest, well is history, i was just very lucky to have such a great group of guys there, thank you for everything!!!! Again I apologize and when i get better i'm taking everyone that was with us that night, out for beers!! and thanks so much christian for giving my parents directions!!! We didn't leave the hospital til about 2 am, i have a broken left collar bone, bruised ribs, a bruised lung, some strained neck muscles and 2 rash patches, one on my left shoulder and one on my left hip. i'll try to get some pix up..But I just thank god im alive!!! as for the bike, welll i havent gotten the balls up yet to walk outside and look at it, but im sure it's pretty much gone, anyone know of a decent dealership i can take it to to have an estimate done?? thanks again for everyones help i owe you all. Also, to whomever took pix, if your itching to post them up, go for it, i dont care. but PM me also, i'd like to have you e-mail them to me. Thanx.

If you don't have full coverage then don't bring it to a stealership. A lot of thy guys on here including myself can tear apart a bike and put it back together. Just buy a haynes book and we should be able to take the broken off and put the new/used on.

EDIT-The main thing is after tearing it down inspecting all the weld points on the frame and just doing an overall inspection of the frame to make sure there are no hair line cracks.

Glad you are OK. No need to feel embarassed, a lot of us have done the same or worse. I am glad I wasn't there just because it sucks to watch and worry.
Most of us are willing to wrench on our bikes so I agree that it can be repaired a lot cheaper by yourself with some help. Let us know if you need anything.

Oh no not another learning experience . I hope you feel better soon. It sounds like your getting good care.

If it makes you feel better I dropped a Friends bike last weekend. I was up on the BRP in Virgina and my brother turned down a dirt road so we slowly tried to u-turn after convincing him it was not fun on street bikes. Well I almost had it turned around when I had this weird sensation as I put my left foot down. There was no ground. I had pulled up a driveway a few feet and it was inclined just enough so that the ground was further than normal so I just never really got any footing and as if in slow motion I just fell sideways and pretty much used my body to just set it on its side. As I fell in what seemed at the time slow motion I watched the expression on my friends face and it was priceless! Mostly because just about 1 hour before he walked out of a bar in Front Royal (just food and one great beer) and pushed the start button on a bike with no kick stand switch and that was still IN gear As the bike jumped forward I just watched him try and stop it from hitting the car parked next to us. He managed to save it from hitting the car but I had to help him lift it and in front of a small crowd of tourist we had to bend out the shifter and decide to continue even with a 1.5 inch long clutch lever. I laughed inside my helmet so hard after we left I almost had a stroke. Funnier thing was that he was staring at me with the same look I was now giving him as his bike I was riding fell over. Its the HELP ME DUDE ARE YOU RETARDED!! and then the realization that he is mounted on a bike and I'm the idiot. Good news for me is that I didn't do anything to it that was worse than it was before.

You'd think now we would just take it easy but...

You have to see what a Hawk 650 will top out at right? So let me tell you they get up to 95 or there about. I know because I passed him at about that speed on my way to god knows were when we realize we were on a road that turns to dirt (NOT AGAIN) in about 10 yards !!! I hit the dirt at or above 90 and had to dirt track it up a hill and prey there were now turns on the other side because my Bro passed me hauling ass and I was instantly in a blinding cloud of dust and couldn't see shit. I thought for sure I will see him and his bike rolling down the road in front of me so I hit the brakes and dirt track stopped a street bike. After the dust clear one by one we could see we all made it... Other than one hell of a bruise on the knees from having the bike swing out any whack my leg a few times I was fine.

Anyway, not all wrecks are as bad as yours so from one rider to another get well soon an hope your back to riding again soon. You'll be an even better rider. I know I learn all the time...

I took a bike in similar (but not QUITE as bad condition) condition F4i as yours, and brought it back from the dead. I put about 16k or so miles on it on the street, sold it BACK to Suwand28 on here, and he now uses it as his track bike.

Just from the pictures (which don't tell me nearly enough to give an acurate estimate), I'd charge somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000 to make the bike back to new. This would be using used parts.

For new parts, add $1k, at minimum.

From an insuarance standpoint, it's a total loss. Expect a shop to quote you somewhere around $5k+....assuming the frame isn't bent. If it is, it'd be cheaper to buy a new bike.

Sorry to hear about your wreck. Hope you heal up soon and get back up on two wheels.

edit: Any prices I quoted for what *I* would charge mean nothing. I don't want to bring any more crashed bikes from the dead for myself, or for profit. However, I'll give you a hand with your bike if you'd like. I know the F4i better than I know myself.

Glad you're OK and still willing to post here. Heal up!

And yes, I bought TraGik's F4i from him and made it my track bike. What he didn't tell you is that I made it in that "condition" in the first place.

No worries man, just glad you are alright. We can fix the bike without a problem, with the experience here with wrecking and rebuilding it won't take much.

Oh and about ruining the ride, you didn't ruin jack AT ALL. Our riders mean more to us than ANY ride. Heel up man, and when you are ready let us know we will get you back on the road in record time.

First two pics are what I started with when I fixed up the F4i Tony crashed. 3rd pic is where I got with only $500 to fix it, including new tires. Last pic I had somewhere around $1600 (parts only....probably around 20 or 30 hours in labor...this includes the original $500 I spent in getting it road worthy) in "paint", pipe, and several other upgrades.

edit: Oops. 4th pic doesn't show everything I did. I also had a Zero Gravity DB screen, and a corbin seat on it.
