Moving to Carthage/Southern Pines area
Just retired from the Marine Corps last week and will be starting new employment in Southern Pines in August, soooooooooooo................
Donna and I spent a few days looking at houses this week and made an offer on one that is in the Carthage area right on the 15/501. So long as everything goes ok we will be starting the move on the 15th on July, closing at the end of July, and starting with moving all the bikes first. (We will be renting until the closing) To that end I took my new 636 and one of the dirt bikes to a buddy's place in Raleigh Tuesday (Where we also stayed in the evenings....), so those are close by. I can only move 6 bikes at once, (four on teh trailer and two in the truck bed) so that is why I stored those in Raleigh! Two many damned bikes right now!
Anyways, I know nothing of the bike scene in the area or decent roads to ride and will be looking to see what the deal is and decent riders to show me the area!
We are looking forward to moving and getting settled in and also to the 2nd career!
Anyone in that area?

Not really any great roads around here. A couple decent ones, but nothing spectacular.
As far as the bike scene, well...
You've got the guys in Fayetteville and Raleigh that hang out at the gas station and BS all night...
...and then there's a few of "us". Quite a few of us (me included) have a weekly "Meet and Eat", where we hang out at one of the local resturaunts (in Raleigh). However, we usually do something once a month where we'll ride to the mountains. There's probably half a dozen of us that do track days, and as many that also do drag racing.

Well, you already know I am all about track days!
Was hoping to find some guys without having to ride to Raleigh though

Raleigh is where probably 98 percent of the members are.
Me and Unkleslapnuts are the only ones close by in Sanford/Harnett county, but I'm moving to Raleigh in the next month or so.
I THINK there's a couple guys from the SP area that visit on here once in a while as well.

Figures. Don't feel like riding an hour just to hang out every once in a while. Damn. Guess I'll have to get my own thing going in the Carthage area!
This sucks.

i'm in the same boat as you, b/c for the most part, the larger group of riders in harnett county are posers (ie. like lots of chrome, lowered/extended, cruise through traffic in town with goofy leather vests)
there are some nice scenic roads around that area though, but a quick hop on to #1 will have you in raleigh in no time. just a small price to pay for living in the country

We'll see how it goes. I know some guys from the Fayetteville area that are exceptional riders that I hope to get up with!

I'm not to far away. There are some better roads here than in Jacksonville thats for sure. At least its not all flat. I'm in southern wake and while there are no Mountain roads there are plenty of empty country roads.

That's a bit more comforting! We'll have to hook up sometime so you can show me the better farm roads!

Congrats on your retirement and thank you for your service! I hope you enjoy your new gig.
Brakes_n_Blip is good at knowing and/or finding fun back roads out in that general direction. I recommend making the effort to hook up with him sometime. I'm a bit slow so I try not to burden him with my riding too often, but I've always had fun trying to keep up when we've ridden.
