Default Rant about the housing market in the Raleigh area.

Why is it that the fucking working man can't afford a nice house nowadays, especially in the fucking raleigh area. Right now we live in Granville County which still has some what affordable housing. We have a newer house with an acre and 1460 sq ft. We decided to move closer to the Raleigh area to be closer to friends and family. Every damn house with around 2000 sq ft is around the 250,000's unless you move towards the outer area where the future 540 will be and even then your looking around the 200,000 range. I have a good job and the wife has a good job, we have one credit card that's not bad at all and one car payment, 03 corolla is paid off. It doesn't help that daycares charge you a lot of fricking money too.

So to the other house owners in the Raleigh area that are on this site....what did you pay for your house and how much sq ft do you have. When did you purchase the house and was it new or an older house. What area do you live in, example-rtp, cary, apex ect.

in the process of having a house built. About .365 acres 2800sq ft 2 car garage 4 bedroom 3rd floor bonus tons of upgrades and paid about 246k in Holly Springs.

Yes the housing market sucks. Wife and I have good credit, but a shit load of student loans. About 150k worth to give you an indication. Only one car payment and some lingering credit cards from college.

Yeah, i'm looking to move some place in that area within the next year....

It makes me cringe, though it is NOWHERE near as bad as back home in the better Detroit suburbs...

we were looking at the holly springs area. my boss lives out there. its a long haul to work though. We both work in Durham and I think it takes my boss 30-40 minutes to get to work. its not that bad for me but my wife works in a different area of durham and it would be around 40-50 minutes ot holly springs. which development are you moving into? do you have a link? were trying to not go above 200k.

they are building houses for much cheaper than what we paid. We are building in braxton village. I think you can search for it.

Wilmington has the highest cost of living in the state. For an example a modern 1100- 1200sqft 1 car = $165,000+

yeah, i've actually looked at those but i think it will be to far from work. also i can't see spending 200k for 1700 sq ft. the knightdale area has some nice places being built. 200k for 2400 sq ft home on small lot.

It's freaking insane. Even nice apartments are crazy expensive.

Me and Liz decided that when we buy a house, we're moving back to Lee County. You can get almost twice the house for the same money.

Its a trade off. You live twice as far from raleigh its twice as cheap. Holly Springs was as far as I was willing to drive.

You can get a small lot for cheaper. We got a larger lot so we spent more, and about 20k in upgrades. Our house completely standard was 228k and thats for 2800 sq ft. I think there are plans in your price range on a standard lot. My wife also works in durham, she has driven out to the house during rush hour traffic and it took her 1.5 hours to get there. She plans to find something closer to home once we move.

Northern side of Lee County is 35 minutes from north Raleigh. It isn't that far.

I'll take twice the house with 3 times the land any day of the week.

edit: It isn't litterally half the price....but it isn't too terribly far off from that either.

it made for a good sentence I wasn't being literal. Karen grew up in the country and she refused to live anywhere other than a neighborhood with tons of neighbors in a small space.

I wasn't able to pull up the developments house plans, only ones that are already built. If you know of a link for the actual house plans and prices post it up. Does your wife take 55 to work? My wife works for Duke medical, does your wife work near there?

Right now we live in cary and are moving to holly springs once our house is built in oct. She takes davis dr and its alot faster for her. She works for Duke Pediatric dentistry which prolly really close to Duke Medical. The only thing I can tell you is go there and get a listing of the houses. You can get the plans and it will show the prices and what not. Oh you can look up the builder Royal Oaks Building group. If you don't find anything when I am done with dinner I will see what I can find.
