The plug thread was fucked 4 years ago and I think it finally ate itself and shook it loose.
I'm lucky, I'll be able to find a Helicoil kit tomorrow for the thread and have it running by the afternoon.

damn Sal, I had the exact same thing happen when I F'd up my engine on my EX500 in the Mtns with Will. Rode home at high speed and heard LOUD popping...hot air blowing on my leg...no power....and finally limped it to my front door at approx 5MPH top speed....that was it's final ride...but I did find the spark plug had backed out. I didn't want to tell you something like that because I had a "Damn I shoulda thought of that" moment at the time.
