Default 250 Lighting

Hey guys, I'm just finding more hidden goodies in my new but used bike.

I just have a couple quick questions for you guys about my 05 250.

Frst off, does this generation of 250 have running lights on the turn signals? I know my friend with an 07 500 has running lights and wasn't sure if I was supposed to or not. I couldn't find anything that could tell me this.

The reason I ask that, is because I don't have a working tail light either, and I was wondering if the two were related. It turns out that the person who owned the bike previously did the cheap and crappy "fender eliminator" job to it, with botched splicing of wires and whatnot. The good thing is that he only screwed with the signal wires (to avoid buy any sort of integrator) and left the brake/tail light wires factory set.

So at the moment, I have no working tail light (but the brake light works) and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions before I take it down to the dealership to argue that it's not technically street legal, yet they sold it/tagged it. I tried replacing the bulb, but that did nothing.

I'm also trying to get a rear fender and tail/brake light assembly off an 07 250 so that I can try and correct the screwy eliminator and see if I can't fix the tail light issue myself.

No. They don't. Not stock at least. It's fairly easy to convert it if you want them. I don't THINK that your friend's 500 came stock with running lights, either. I THINK that's probably a mod that's been put on the bike. But I could be wrong.

Can you see where he cut the wiring harness when he was cutting up the fender?? If so it should be easy enough to just splice matching wires together.

Check Ebay. You can usually find parts cheap on Ebay. Also, don't just look for an 07 part. The parts are all the same.

You may be right. He bought the bike used and it had a custom paint job so the owner may have converted it to running lights.

Well, I was since they aren't running lights, then it doesn't matter much anyway. Everything functions, I just wanted to clean up the wires a bit so that it would be easier to get to everything. Plus, just looking a bit better and tidier, you know? Granted, I'll be the only one looking under the seat, haha.

I may do that, but this was just in the area and the guy is parting out the bike, which is the only reason i'm looking at the 07. If I can't get those parts, then I'll just take it into the dealership and see if they can fix it for me at little or no cost.

By the way, do you have any idea what may even be causing the tail light problem? The fuse looks like its in good condition, and the bulb is brand new.

Thanks for your replies gimp.

Possibly just a cut wire. Or a pinched wire. Just kind of follow that wiring forward on the bike and see if anything looks amiss.

It's possible the wire got pinched somewhere and is causing it to short out a little bit.

Thanks for the advice gimp. I took your advice and others and just did it myself and saved myself a trip to the dealership .

My dad and I traced back the wires and found out that all the wires are giving strong voltage, so we turned our attention to the bulb. We replaced it the other day, but it didn't make a difference. Well, we ended up just putting more pressure on it and the bulb lit on its own. So, after cleaning out the socket a bit, the bulb fits in, though a bit loose, and I'm now totally street legal. I'm still going to see if I can't pick up a spare assembly and the fender, but now it's not that big of a deal.

Thanks for your help gimp.
