I think the bike is a bit more "twitchy" now, but in a good way. I feel that it responds to rider input quite a bit more than it did before.

I read here that by lowering the front or raising the rear, that the bike may be more prone to tankslappers, because of the decreased trail.
I'll try to get a picture of it from the side...as soon as the damn rain stops!!!
In the bit of hard riding I did on it right after doing the shock, I didn't notice anything that would make me fearful of tankslappers...but I guess it's possible. The bike does feel a bit more "twitchy," as I said before, but I don't think it's anything that's so extreme that it would cause it to be any more dangerous...
I just know that the guy that was selling them on Ebay has TONS of good feedback for them, and that he claims that he's never had anyone report any kind of problem with the handling of the bike.
I THINK the reason that they don't suggest raising the tail like that on ninja250.com is for several reasons...those being:
1. Raising the tail like that REQUIRES you to remove the center stand...not just because it doesn't hold the bike up right anymore, but because it now would rub against the chain while you were riding.
2. Raising it like that shortens the wheel base very slightly, thus causing you to have to adjust the tension on your chain.
3. Raising it like that makes it a bit more difficult for a shorter rider (or a passenger) to climb on like they normally would.
I feel that these reasons are actually justifiable reasons for why you shouldn't do that, but I don't think that the site is trying to imply that it's dangerous...

i also have the sv650 shock and i know what your saying ...it feels good to me .. before the mod it was slow to turn and didn't handle as well and when i hit my nos the back end would lay down and just felt stupid ...probly looked stupid also ...trying to figure out what my options are for the front end ..you guys got any ideas ?
OH ya .....the sv650 shock on the ninja 250 brings the rear up 3 inches ..right now i'm working on extending the side stand 1.5 inches so it doesn't lean so far. nothing i can really do about the center stand since like you said it hits the chain. i don't know about any tankslappers but i do know pulling a wheelie was vitually impossible with the stock suspension , i could get it up but not hold it at all ...

cool, so 2 votes for the sv shock. guess i need to save up some money. or just be a income investment...
the sv650 shock is really nothing to mod yourself .. lil grinding lil drilling use the upper race from the 250 shock you take out .and you can find a sv 650 shock on ebay for around 30 or 40 $
I installed one on my '93. I never drilled any new holes. I think it handles much better not to mention it looks a little better. I had a buddy of mine who owns a welding shop, extend my side stand 1.5" He charged me 20bucks and you cant even tell he did anything

Generally, raising the rear end three inches would guarantee dangerous changes in front end geometry. However yours doens't seem to look so bad. Nontheless, be careful.
