mj31 check out this list, we have plenty of people to ride with locally in the NYC area:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sportbikesofnyc
No squids allowed there...we do rider training for newbies, trackdays for more experienced guys and rip it up on the street just the same doing day/wknds/weeklong trips, sometimes even camping on the bikes. Good luck!

Thanks bro for the heads up. But before we go any further, what's your definition of a squid? I ride with a helmet, gloves, jacket and boots but no leather pants

Mj31-> A squid to us can be many things including people who ride above their skill level and endanger others in group rides, riders who pull wheelies and stoppies on group rides endangering others and drawing more attention to our already elevated speed, and basically if you are a poseur talking too good of a game. It's more of a vide you give off. :p If u don't wear full gear u''re not necessarily a squid, but just looking for trouble IMO. Haven't seen your introductory post, did I miss it? Hope to see you out for a scenic ride sometime soon!

You'll have to email the moderator or post to the list asking for help. Too bad it wasn't the right place for ya. We could if showed u some nice roads off the island and got your addicted to gear and trackdays.

Thanks for the invite, I appreciate it. In your post lies the answer as to why this group might not be right for me at this time. If you live in Long Island I apologize in advance. I personally don't like L.I. that much. I would never make trips there, I just don't like going there. I'm also not a big fan of riding in Jersey either. I am more of a mountain guy. As I was reading some of the club's posts, I got the impression that you guys do allot of riding in those area's and figure it's not for me. I know you are kidding about all the Bling stuff, but that's not me at all. I wear all my gear besides the leather pants, I just don't feel comfortable in them. I am though known to rock a pair of Motocross pants on my bike from time to time. I have been on a motorcycle since age 9, raced Motocross, District 34 till I was 20. My last four years I rode 125cc/250cc Expert and have had a Sportbike since I was 16. I'm a nice guy, I ride within my skill level and don't put other people in danger. From what I have read in the Posts, you all sound like nice people and maybe somewhere in the future we will meet up. Take care.
P.S. The Track days sure do sound like fun.

Look under my screen name. I live in Norwalk, CT. My GF lives in LI and I detest it probably more than anyone I've ever met. There are a handful of members from LI, but we are spread in all 5 boroughs, NJ, Fairfield and Westchester counties. We NEVER plan a group ride out on LI or Manhattan because of the traffic and lack of decent roads. We go West & North generally. (PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA, VT) on day rides and all over the place on longer riders. As bad a wrap as NJ has there are a few northern roads that are ok, and are good for passing through while on our way to NY or PA. There are very occasional after work, at night, rides by some riders into LI, but that is a small group that live near there and like to stretch their legs after work on limited time is all.

Umm...u're not allowed on most rides without proper motorcycle gear from head to toe. We have so many gear hoes it's like a running flea market for motorcycle gear on the list.

That's us too. We've even split the newer riders (to the sport or group) into their own 'scenic' rides until a 'spirited' paced rider can vouch for them because too many people were writing checks their arses couldn't cash getting caught up in quicker group rides.
Not sure if you are still interested, but I'm absolutely flabbergasted how you got the complete opposite idea of the group.
I really wished u introduced yourself and talked about your riding and then 30 people would of chimed in with "Right on man, me too." Then u would of really gotten the idea of our group driven home.
PM me if you have any others questions. We're always looking for new members who think about motorcycling like we do. Wouldn't mind having another buddy at the track as well. I just did 2300 miles since last Thurs. going down to Deal's Gap and surrounding areas, but I was still jealous my buddy did a trackday w/out me. Good thing I have three more this year hehe.
