Just got off my new Aprilia Tuono for the first time!!!
Well, I made it back from my first ride, no problems other than it dying at several intersections, I'm paranoid of it wheelying and taking off without me. Other than that things went well, and um the first time I downshifted it about threw me over the handles!!! I have never slowed down in anything as fast as just letting the clutch go after shifting into a lower gear, it felt like I gripped the brakes!!! I'm surprised the tire didn't slide! The tire popped up a couple times shifting into second, but it felt ok because I was rolling fast enough that it felt stable. This thing is LOUD!!! Everyone is looking at me! Makes me nervous. Maybe I should find a helmet with a dark shield like I see some people use so people can't look at me. Anyways, I loved it and I'm sure I'll get over the fear of taking off and quit killing it soon!

Glad you're happy, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,You really should take that MSF course before you ride that thing agin.
Parts for that bike are not cheap nor are they readily avalable. And I can't believe you took it out on the street not knowing how to ride or even what to expect.Mmost people try to at least learn the basics in a parking lot.

Take a class. I can sort of relate to some of that, I remember it taking a while to get used to the engine braking, it is incredible with the rotax twin. I hope you are wearing gear!! Don't worry about other people, don't get distracted. Take a class. Concentrate on your ride, well let me clarify worrying about other people, constantly think about cars and things around you, think they are all out to get you. Make youself visible and always have an escape route. Take a class. Just don't worry about people looking at you, concentrate on the road and traffic, actually, take a class, stay out of traffic, ride in emply parking lots at 3am. wear gear. I hope you were kidding about the shoes pants and a sweater. take a class. wear helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, pants.
there were some repeating themes there, yes I'm trying to brainwash you!!!

From your description it doesn't really sound like things went well but just the opposite. Unless surviving is the only requirement. Is that a 1000cc bike? No MSF course? Wow, a little insane sounding to even me. I started on a 600cc ss with the MSF and people thought I picked a bad first bike. Take that course and learn how to ride.
Keep the shiny side up!

It's a beautiful bike-but why did you pick it? Totally unforgiving first bike. Don't be offended that I put this up for general discussion either.

Have fun Dan. The MSF advice is good, but don't let the poopie-faces ruin your enthusiasm. It's the rider that wrecks, not the bike.

people thought I was crazy for starting out on the zx7...be careful and safe. Do yourself a favor if you dont do MSF practice in a controlled place like a empty parking lot. Oh, and buy some frame sliders you do not want to try to find new plastics for that thing $$$$$

I agree completely. It'd be nice if he posted so we'd know whether we are posting about someone still alive or not.
