New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
oh ya i just want to ride its so fun just goin out and riding i live in nc and to the beach it is like 4 hours i just want to ride to the beach one day stay the night and ride back. i really dont want to race, really dont want to do tricks. i just want a nice looking bike to go riding on. i have 4 friends who have bikes and there first bikes were r6s they have them now ( 2 of them do anyways.) they keep tellin me to get the r6 but when i read on the forums about what u guys say (older riders) makes me thnk damn what do i need to do. but if i can get some links for more plastic to make my that gs500 look better thats what ill get. if i cant find any links i may end up gettin it anyways. insurance will be like 125 a mth or maybe a lil more. but i make about 150 a week so i can afford to pay that. my parents pay for my truck. i can pay for the bike at the end of the year. i will have 3000. i know yall thinkin how the f*** is he goin to get a 2004 rg with 3000. well my moms bf has lots of friends and one happens to own a few yamaha shops and he said he can get a used one with pretty much low miles for 3500 and my mom will spot me that and ill pay her off. well g2g go do some damn spanish homework. high school blows c ya
No WAY in HELL I'd pay 1500 a yr to ride....That's just fucked up......Look into getting a 250, Older(95 on down), cheap, pay cash and not worry about full coverage.
And get into the MSF CLASS!

What do you think insurance might be for a 19 year old driver with one speeding ticket (car) First time rider, I will have taken the MSF course before buying the bike (A 1991 EX500). Any thoughts??

1.)What you'll pay in one month is more than I pay in one year on an EX250 (I'm 23).
2.)You're really going to have a lot of peer pressure to overcome. If you already have 4 friends who started on larger bikes and there's someone willing to sell you an R6 at a great price, you really have a lot of to deal with. But please understand that people tell you to start small because we don't want you to be one of those stories in the newspaper or a blurb on the evening news. In the end, it'll really be your choice and no one else's. We'd just like make sure that'll you'll have the ability to make choices for a long time to come.
I've been riding my dirtbike for about a year now, and next summer im getting a bike.... the only problem is that my brother's gonna give me his for the summer while hes off at college or whatever. Its a 92 CBR 600. I dont have too much money so I cant really choose what bike i get, its kind of like an all or nothing deal, so what would you suggest to me as i start to ride?

Can you afford to repair his bike if you drop it? If the answer is no, then do not ride it. It is not a good starter bike and you make no mention of experience. If you haven't taken the MSF and can't afford to, you definitely cannot afford to ride.
Same goes for gear. If you can't get a full set of gear, you can't afford to ride.
I have gear - Helmet, Jacket, probably going to get some boots when i start riding... The plastics arent perfect so if I lay it down, no big deal. Im gonna take the MSF in spring, but do you think that all this is enough? I cant think of anything else to do except try to start slow (although the throttle gets away from everyone sometimes).

Spike,
It's nearly impossible to estimate what your insurance will be. You need to call around and ask. Try State Farm, Geico, and Bike Line. A bunch of people on a forum aren't going to be able to tell you anything but what they are paying. I'm 23 and pay 160/yr. Does that help you any?

I know they aren't going to be able to just tell me what it would be, I was asking for more of a ballpark figure. Even people posting what year/size bike they have, how old they are and how much they pay... that's more along the lines of what I was asking. How old are you juncc? and what kind/year bike do you have???
