But who would want to go fast in a car..boring...:p
@ OP. you can always go out and get a shitty ass 1000 dollar lightweight bike and practice on that and when u are good just go out and get what u want. No point in spending madz money on a newer 250 or something of that caliber and get rid of it a few months later. Waste of money IMO (this comming from a poor college student who value saving every little penny). Cheap bike...practice...then buy something u want. oh yeah, 600 is all the power u will ever need in..imo.
I started out on my R6...never had a problem but it is not anywhere near a good bike for starters. The SS bikes leave little room for mistakes...bad bad.
I'm still a noob too but that's my noobish advice for u.
Good luck and i love that 350z. I am a die hard Nissan Fan and car enthusiast myself.

Thank you for teh compliment, finally not being judged by my Japanese car haha. As for what you said about the cheap ass bike, thats what im about to do. I was on... cycleclassifieds.com? and there were a bunch of pretty high mileage bikes on there for pretty cheap, which would be best for starter bikes, so thats where im at as of now haha.

Absolutely, the Scorpion is a great lid for a great price. I don't know too much about Suomy, but in regards to Shoei and Arai, they've both been proven to hold up in crashes very well in years of racing and street riding alike. I was just saying not to buy some crap helmet just because it's easy on the wallet.

That is slow for a busa and I am not familar with Hondoctor, is it setup for street.
I was thinking that you were referring to street performance not drag strip, rollons between 60 and 120+ are more realistic street racing for the guys that get there kick out of straight line speed.
When I think performance I prefer to take all aspects cornering braking acceleration and top speed
Id go with a 5-10 year old 600 as the fastest bikes to even be considered although a 650 or 500 would better if you want to get really good quick istead of taking 3x as long on the race reps. then after you learned all the dos and donts in 2 years or so you could get a shiny newer one and not worry so much
|
True, If you take all those aspects into account. A friend of mine has a mustang that in straight line performance and roll-ons at any speed will dust any streetbike I've come across, and his car has about 70k invested.

Agreed. Cornering and braking is a whole different ball game.

In a current issue of one of the motorcycle magazines a worked up viper with 950hp still loses rollons (60-120)to a stock zx14 with a competent rider. Other worked on vehicles lose by even bigger gaps

stock litre bikes run 9's at sea level, drag bikes easily run 8's, biggest problem for bikes from a stop is traction. Why is this even being debated?

Well, you are on a site where Japanese bikes are the weapon of choice. I ride a Japanese bike but I drive an American car. I love when Harley guys talk down my rice-burner bike as they get into a Toyota. I reply "Yup, I ride a Jap bike but I drive an American car, so how is that worse than you riding an American bike but driving a Jap car/truck?" Usually shuts them up!

I run a japanese car and japanese bike. I will not buy Gm or even consider Gm because it is Government owned and i am 100% against that in this country (USA). Ford i might consider.
Nissan/infiniti is just so exciting. Im saving up for a 350Z

Whats a hondoctor?
The Nissan 240sx has a very balance chasis and i think with a good powerful engine could hang with a 600 on the track prettty easily. Just throw some good tires, and get it some good brakes. Nissan RB and SR family are the shit.

Nissan is the shit. I STIIL miss my Z32 ('91 N/A, unfortunately). I love the amount of choices for the Z33(350Z) now...as I remember when it used to be just a supercharger system to pick when it came to really bumping up its' power. Now, with single and twin turbo kits available, it gives some pretty badass options.
I've always been more partial to the Z's bigger brother, though. Just a shame what is going on with Kaizo now, as that leaves either the federally compliant/ grandfathered MotoRex cars or taking the chance with a state titled one as the only options to get an R32/33/34 here.
Here are a few freinds' cars. R32 GT-R V-spec (Kaizo, stock)), R33 GT-S (state title, stock) and R33 GT-R V-spec(state title, ~550 awhp at the time), and a standard R34 GT-R(Kaizo, in the shop waiting on DOT "compliance paperwork"). Guy in the blue Caddy EXT has a built R33 GT-R as well.
I <3 Skyline GT-R's more than I do Supras, lol. Still on the fence about the R35 GT-R....
Sorry for the thread jack.

So you shun an American product because it had to get shored up against failure by the US government due in part to a poor economy but then choose to purchase foreign vehicles and therefore lend support to a foreign economy. And i bet you consider yourself a patriot too.
Logic is definitely not your forte. Just say you like Japanese vehicles and stop trying to rationalize your decision

The days of 100% American Made cars are loooooong gone. They might be 100% made here, but assembled with foreign parts (not all, so don't soak the undies people)
I have a Datsun 240z with a 383 stroker in it and on the tail it says "Born in Japan, raised in America".

i have no problem riding japanese or driving german. But say "I'm not going to buy GM because the US guv'ment owns em" but happy to support the japanese/korean/german/swedish market is the most idiotic statement I have heard in some time
