Default New to riding and LOVE IT!!

Hi guys, I've been riding for about three days now and can't get off the bike. I bought a 98 cbr 600 f3. The bike fits me so well and the handling of it is awesome. I feel really comfortable on the bike and think it was a great choice. Anyway just thought I would make a first post on the Sportbike Forum.

Yeah I always wear my helmet. I had a bad crash on the road before on a fourwheeler and had a helmet on. I cracked the helmet in several places so I am a believer in helmets. I got on the interstate today just to see how it was. Man the jet wash was terrible. Felt like I was doing 140 and was only doing 70.

When we say gear, we mean helmet(ofcourse), a good leather or textile jacket, good leather gloves, boots(no tennis shoes) and maybe even textile or leather pants..At least thats what I think "gear" is..It's defnot just a helmet.

Not trying to jump on your back or anything but be safe

Completely understandable. I have been wearing a cheap leather jacket and some leather gloves. I've got a scorpion exo 700 and a stinger jacket coming. Today was prolly my last day of riding for a week or so. By then I will go pick up some decent gloves and boots.

Like someone else stated, don't get too comfortable too soon. The combination of an SS bike's geometry/brakes/tires and your lack of experience can land you on your head in a heartbeat. Remember, it's usually the driver of a car that creates an 'Oh SHIT' moment. When that happens, you have to make the proper decisions and actions.

Get to an MSF class and practice away from traffic as often as you can. There are several books out there also which you can learn a LOT from.

Hopefully you can have many uneventful miles of fun. Oh yeah, gear up. A wise man once said: Sweat wipes off, road rash doesn't.

I started on a 600 as well. I don't think that makes us idiots though, just alters the learning curve. You can learn faster on a smaller more nimble bike, but that doesn't mean you can't learn on a larger bike. I rode my buddies 1000 two weeks after getting my permit and did fine, because I used common sense. Sure I had the thought of down shifting and cracking it, but then I said to myself "This is no 600, and I'm new to this...so no!" Just use your head more than your throttle hand, and you'll be fine.
