Beginner Course designed for sport bikes?
I have experience riding dirt bikes/ scooters, but would like to learn the basics of a sports bike before I actually buy one. Are there any courses / driving schools that teach specifically on sports bikes? I am from NY so if anyone knows any specific places around there it would be great.
Thanks

The MSF's Basic Riders Course which is available in almost every state will teach you all the basics you'll need to know about streetbikes, most of which are common between off road, dual purpose, cruisers, and sportbikes alike. All the basic contols and techniques are the same. If you're looking for something specifically more sport oriented there are several track schools out there in several states, but they are geared for novices and experienced riders, so if you're new to streetbikes I'd say you have to get out on the road and get some miles under your belt before you dive into true "sport" biking. You must learn to walk before you run! The MSF does have many courses that can fit your needs. Hope this helps.

I agree with lasermax. Dont worry about a specific sportbike program, just take the MSF BRC. If you want to take up track riding and such then do so later. In fact, you could even take the ERC after some time on the road. All you need to know are the basics right now, the more advanced stuff will come later on. Most track riding schools will teach you a great deal but WILL NOT teach you how to ride because you should already know how to ride when your there.

The MSF will teach you enough, just take that and then get your license and buy a bike. Any reason why you want to buy a new bike first?

Then go for a used one and put that extra money towards gear or your new ride.

When I bought my GS500 from the stealership a salesman told me that happens quite a bit... He said one guy barely made it out of the parking lot before locking up the front and spilling his brand new 600 SS machine!

If you had a bike I say take the ERC class. Mainly because you have rode dirt bikes and other two wheeled things. But with no license or anything you be best off taking the MSF, then the ERC. Ask your DMV, they should have a list of places iny our area, or do a internet search.
