I hate gloves
started wearing gloves today...I hate them. Maybe I need to break them in, been trying to all day. hurt my wrist, the end of my fingers, underneath the nail of my right thumb from the way I roll the throttle. I had to change the way I was actually driving to accommodate the gloves and relieve the discomfort(that part is partly okay now). but since changing from no gloves to full gauntlet, leather, carbon fiber, pain in the ass gloves. it's effected a large portion of my driving ability. This doesn't really seem to be a problem for everyone else so I guess it's just an adjusting phase...but man it's a pain. they take long to put on and off, I can't do anything when they're on, I've tried to put my helmet on after putting the gloves on and that failed. So then I had to take the time to take a glove off then put the damn thing back on again.
I'm just venting and hoping it gets better soon, they really are a pain....
Your hands will thank you when some asshat puts you on the ground. Gear isn't necessarily for comfort or looks, though well fitting gear helps.

I go Beltway blitzin' on my mad mofo musclebike WFO. Its a true choice, a god-like experience if you will. The thought that I could buy the farm in a spectacular fireball...................well, that gives me a stiffie! Tesco Vee/The Meatmen
You will be thankful when you get a rock kicked up at you on the freeway, or when you go down. When you fall your first instinct is to put your hands out to catch yourself and the road will eat them up. Just give it a few days and they should feel completely natural.
What kind of gloves are they? I've loved both pairs of fieldsheer's that I've gotten. One pair of street type half gauntlets I just crashed in and my replacement full leather gauntlets I got a couple days later. Very comfortable and great feedback with the controls. I was very happy that i had my gloves on when I went down in those rocks.
I've got Helds, and they are very cofortable. I can buckle my helmet with them on if I need to. Like Ray said, it sounds like they are too small. But give them some time to break in and they might be fine. You don't want to come off your bike without gloves on...
I have Joe Rocket GPX gloves which are OK, and my wife has the A* GP Pro gloves. I tried on a pair of those at the stealer and oh my word they are nice .. pricey though at $250 a pair.

Icon Merc Gloves, full gauntlet. I mean it's the first day I've had them, they seem to fit fine...actually the fingers seems a little longer. Maybe I'm just not use to gloves in any sense.
Gloves ain't shit once you get used to them. Think riding a motorcycle for a few hours with gloves on sucks? Try doing a foot patrol in Iraq when it's 130 degrees out with full non vented gloves for 6hrs at a time. That shit sucks. Now I don't mind wearing them one bit, I actually feel naked and extremely vulnerable without them when doing anything that could hurt them, such as riding.
Please for the love of god don't take that as a "yeah but i went to iraq" statement, it's a segway.
One thing I've learned through my deployments regarding gloves is that they must fit snugly. They should fit like a, well, glove. Not all sizes from all brands fit the same. You have to figure out what fits your hand best. Personally I like them to fit as snug as possible and BEFORE I started riding I wanted box-seam-construction in the fingertips and would test the fit by playing with my blackberry. Figures.
The fingertips should only be touching when your hands are closed in order to get rid of the "fingertip pain."
If you have slender fingers or small hands you should check into RS TAICHI gloves. They're made for asians which stereotypically have small hands, lol.
If the gloves have a carbon knuckle insert, ENSURE that the front lip of the insert either does not press into your middle finger OR that it has material under it to reduce pressure.
The palms should be constructed in such a way that they don't bunch oddly when your hand is semi-closed. You'd think that all motorcycle gloves are like that already, but they aren't. Flat palms are not only less ergonomic, but will get pressed creases in them which will reduce their ability to protect you over time. Sweat + pressure + time = weak point on impact.
Over time you'll figure out what fits you best and you'll have little tricks to aid in trying on gloves, the above is just my two cents.
Also a lot of gloves can be machine washed with either mild or no detergent. When the washer is done just slip the gloves on and go outside/let them dry on your hands. All gloves break in and this just helps the process out. Check the labels and materials of the gloves before you just toss 'em in, though.
tl;dr
Wear gloves, PERIOD. Make sure they fit so as to reduce any problems you are having.

Pretty simple issue, sounds like to me. Get a pair that actually fit. Someone above mentioned Helds. I pretty much won't wear any other kind of glove at this point. They are wonderfully comfortable and have almost no break-in period. They also actually stand up to long-term daily use. My Galaxies are probably four or five years old at this point and there is no sign of them wearing through the index fingers like happened in less than a year with both a pair of Dainse and Alpinestars GP gloves I had.
