There are very good reasons to start with less bike than a 600cc ss:

Want a 600? Read This!

There are numerous threads started each spring by guys who can't quite see the logic behind starting on a bike that isn't standing ready to obey every control input they mistakenly make and launch an unsuspecting new rider to oblivion.

Bear in mind that most 650cc bikes are twins (either v-twins or parallel twins) and have much more forgiving power delivery comared to inline 4's.

I hope I don't get my pee pee slapped for this...

But, seriously. Read the fucking stickies. You're not the exception to the rule. You're not going to be riding 12 o'clock wheelies in a week. You won't drag knee like rossi. And no matter how hard you try, you'll never be as cool as the guys on biker boyz or torque.

If you want an r6. Buy an r6. Just don't waste every body here's time by trying to convince us we're wrong. If you don't really want anybody's advice, then simply don't ask for it.

An r6 is a bad starter bike. That is your answer. That is the only answer. It says it on all the advertising. "For experienced riders". Are you an experienced rider? No? Didn't think so.

250= the honda civic of motorcycles. R6 = 800hp hennesey viper.
250= Cessna airplane r6= f22 raptor

Good?? Thanks for coming out.

Edit, I see you're already bought it. Be careful and enjoy it... :shrug

my philosophy "your right hand controls your destiny", you can be a retard on a 250 if you want same as a 600, question is do you have the discipline to control yourself. my 2 cents

Every year you'll be able to buy a bike for what you'll be paying for insurance for the R6.

To this I say, why ride a fast bike slow when you can ride a slow bike fast?

The only real problem is your momma is gonna miss you when you're gone.

Well, that, and it's gonna suck when you drop it.

If your going to disregard the information, at least buy an older used 600 rather than spending the $10k for a brand new 600 that you might and most likely drop/crash/something.

If you have experience riding (dirtbikes, quads) you probably still wont be ready to handle it, but that doesnt mean you can start with it and 'respect' it. I started with a 600 and did fine, but I did under the speed limit for about a year before ever getting on it. Its just too easy to womp the throttle and eat it as a new rider.

On the R6 forum, a good example of this was a kid bought an R6 and thought it would be a good first bike if he took is slow and 'respected' it. A few months later he posted a thread which consisted of him turning onto a side road and flooring it (supposedly not going 'that' fast) and he looped it. He broke his arm and got some rash, and it was obvious he was going MUCH faster than he stated as the bike didnt look like a sportbike anymore.

Upon this I add: carburetors are much more fun that EFI anyhow.

I'll say it again and again.

It's the brakes that are more likly that are going to get you, or the twitchy ass handling. Do you know what to do when you get headshake? Tankslapper? The back end comes out in a turn? You go to fast into a turn? Ect ect ect? Your most likley going to eat it, hard.

I doubt the power will get you, keep it under 6k rpm's.

An R6 is the rough equivalent of an indycar. This is one of those bikes you might find in professional racing with a few modifications.

A 250 has 1/4 the horsepower and still has the acceleration of a Mustang GT.

You have enough to learn when it comes to riding. Would you have preferred to go through Driver's Ed driving a Corvette or an Indycar?

on this very forum MANY years back, there was a guy named R6SexyDude or something along those lines. He had the same argument, except we didn't get to say "told ya so.." Because all we got was the news article and somebody telling us he was dead...
