Hi everyone, just got my first bike yesterday. Just wanted to ask everyone if they could recommend me a helmet.
Thanks!

It is best to go to a shop that stocks several different makes and models, so you can try them all on and buy the one that fits you best. Even different models by the same manufacturer fit differently. It's all about fit. Do not buy for looks, and do not buy without trying it on and wearing it around for 15 minutes or so.
That said, if it fits your head properly, I highly recommend the Shark RSR2. It's absolutely amazing!
Good luck!

well first Q, what's your budget?
100-200 HJC, Scorpion
you open up a loft of options if you're willing to spend 300-350

In the 100-200 range I would add Fulmer. They make a great helmet. Only problem is they refuse to seel online so you can only get it at authorized dealers.

How about a helmet that fits your noggin very well and one that's within your budget? There are lots of helmets out there and each one will fit every SBN members head differently.
Try on as many as you can (if possible). Whatever helmet you decide to buy, just make sure it's a a very snug fit when you first try it on. That helmet that fits GREAT during the first 5 minutes may become very loose as the liner breaks in with continued use.
Good luck and ride safe!

my rf-1000 was super tight, almost to the point where I wanted to return it and get an XL, but i wore it a handful of times and it fits perfect now. Best point made so far (last post)

Don't skimp...... You'll end up with a closet of helmets before you figure out that a cheap helmet that doesn't fit well is money down the drain.
If the Scorpion fits-- it's a good helmet, for a pretty decent price. I find them too heavy and my head is round. Round head= Shoei RF-1000.
good luck!!

Find out your head shape, look for models that would suit it and go try them on in a shop... Pretty much everything sold in a shop is DOT approved and will do the job with the exception of course of novelty helmets. I am assuming you are getting a full-face, which you should. happy hunting.

I second the Shark helmet recommendation, but you really do need to try a couple different styles/brands before pulling the trigger.

try on a LOT. pick the most comfortable snell and DOT rated helmet in your price range. you'll be fine...

Hopefully this doesn't open a big can of worms, but...
Just about all helmets sold in the US are DOT certified, so that is your minimum requirement.
Otherwise, they will typically be ECE or Snell. Either is fine, and many people debate which is actually better. I'm NOT going there.
Just don't pass on a helmet because it lacks Snell.
If it is only DOT, with no Snell and no ECE, then it's probably something you want to walk away from.
Hope that makes sense.
Good luck!

all depends on how much you are willing to spend.
HJC makes great looking, great fitting helmets with a reasonable price ranger (80-250$) while you can also dent your wallet with a Suomy or Arai pushing like $500+.
for me, thats too much money as my HJC and KBC both have Snell and DOT stamps and look and fit just as good as a $600 helmet.
