Need advice...
So im pretty sure im one of the 20 newb threads on this page alone, but i've decided to post regardless. I'm looking to get a brand new bike, and i'm just learning to ride. I dont care about speed, but looks are another issue.
the Gixxer and r6 both look nice to me, money not an issue so i plan on buying somthing brand new. Since you guys know what your talking about i want to know if it is at all possible to buy one of these and not drop it.
yes... i've read the beginner threads and all that but I dont mess around with turns and speeding and all that stupidity, i just love the feel of me on a bike crusing around. the kawa 250 looks ok to me, but i want to get what i want to get. What do you guys think?
IN A NUTSHELL(incase you dont feel like reading)-Can I start with a 600 from a dirtbike and basically ride taking minimal curves, or should i definately get a slow starter. lol no im not gonna sit here and say im "responsible" i know shit happens

If you're just looking to cruise around, just get the 250 and enjoy the significantly lower insurance payment relative to the GSX-R or R6.
In fact, if you just want to cruise around town on 2 wheels, get a scooter. They're fun, cheap as hell to insure, and get ridiculous mileage.
Just curious, your profile says "08/R6." Just wishful thinking for now?

Absolutely, it's called a kickstand..
Get the 250, beat it, and enjoy it. The bike is what $3600 brand new. Insurance is going to be cheap and it gets 50+ mpg.. It's a no brainer. Just think how "cool" that 600 will look after you lay it down a few times. Starting off, don't go for looks.. Go for something that's safe, then when your skills develop, go for looks.. Good looks don't do shit to keep you upright..
My $.02

Not sure if you read THIS THREAD yet or not...but there are some good things in there to help you out.
also, If money isn't an issue, I think the GSX650F is a good bike....not GSXR fast, but its something that you can "safely" grow into. I've been riding for over 10 years now and this is the bike I currently ride. It seams to fit what you want.. "something to cruise around on a look good".
This is Just My opinion, but I have racked up 4000 miles on mine in 2 months...it is definately a blast to ride!

If money isn't an issue, look into the 500cc class bikes. I wouldn't recommend the GSX650F cause it is too heavy.

f it. if that's the bike you want, get the bike you want, but do it fully understanding the reasons why people think you should start on a smaller bike - it gives you a much larger buffer for errors that newbs tend to make. If you weigh the consequences yourself and you feel that you want to do it, it's your choice, not anyone else's on the board. would anyone recommend it? probably not, but we're not buying the bike, you are.
keep in mind, a buddy of mine got an 07/08 gsxr 600 as his first bike b/c it looked sweet (and it does), but he's gone down 3 times in 2 months. are you a better rider than he is? are you smoother with the controls? will you practice enough before you are put in a situation where you need to make some sort of emergency maneuver? maybe you are. maybe you aren't.

It is not too Heavy as long as the rider isn't 5'2". i found the FZ6 harder to handle at low speeds (even though it is lighter on paper) than I do the GSX. The GSX has all of its weight down low...so the weight that you READ about is very mis-leading.
And zonda,
I ride daily rain or shine to/from work. I have also taken several road trips. The bike is a GREAT all arounder as far as I am concerned. I owned an FZ6 prior to this bike...and this bike just seams to be better all around. I wrote a full review on it somewhere comparing it to the FZ6 and the ninja 650...All bikes are good, you just need to decide what you want.
Do you want speed? Looks? low end grunt? a great commuter? Every bike out there is going to have its pros and cons...The GSX doesn't "peak" like most other 600s...It has just a flat and constant power band. while the FZ6, R6, etc have very little low end grunt, but pull like crazy up top. again, its all in what you want it for. I use mine daily, so I wanted something comfy and torquey...and I got just that.

You can wreck a bike by several means...low side, high-side, flipping it...locking the brakes up, shifting too abruptly in a turn, wildlife strike, etc...
