New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
I'm just going to reiterate the need for gear when riding. Also, try looking into taking the MSF course in your area, as it will teach you a good deal on riding and you'll be a whole lot more confident on your bike afterwards.
Also, you get to use someone else's bike, which makes everything so much more awesome, as you don't really worry too much about dropping it.
That 250 is awesome, though. It just looks sooooo sexy.

yup... it was weird though, among my friends, it was always the guys who didn't have the balls to break it off when their girls demand they don't ride. My female friends are gone so quickly when their men pull something like that on them.

Snapped off part of my heels when i put my foot down wrong (3 inches off of the 4 inch heels) and twisted my ankles. That was stupid. Serves me right for being so lazy and dumb.

I second the notion that you should definitely look into gear and MSF. I did, and I'm glad I did. I don't think i'd be half as careful if I hadn't done all of those things, and they teach you A LOT. I just bought my first bike in April, an 07 250 and I'm happy with it. It's a great starter bike and the 08+ models are beautiful.
My boyfriend doesn't ride because he doesn't want to. He's really anti-motorcycles... don't know why, but he just has no interest in it. He's cool that I ride, but I know I'll never ever get him on his own. I don't know what to tell you about your hubby being jealous since my other half clearly isn't jealous. haha.
I have been reading a few posts to my original.
I didn't mean I wanted to ride around practically naked.
LOL Sorry is I came off that way. LOL
I DID finally get my bike!
I bought a 2000 Ninja 500.
I LOVE IT.
Perfect first bike for me.
I got on it and in 2 minutes, was riding just fine
I want to paint it black though.
Looking for a painter in Columbus.
Ok, back to reading the funny responses. LOL
Thanks for all the help by the way!
I just decided I didn't want a 250 when I knew I would want to upgrade in a week.
I'd like to actually get a 600 soon too. LOL
Tatas!
(Maybe I'll do that soon too. LOLOL
I have been wearing my helmet since it's my first year and I guess it's the law in Ohio.
I'll be a good girl
Good choice on the Ninja 500. I started on a 500 and rode it for several years honing my skills. Many times on the twisties, I would be faster then the bigger boys only to be blown past when the road straightened.
When the time came and I thought it was time for a bigger, faster bike, I realized that I still had a 1/4 of a twist left to full throttle. In time I did get a 1990 ZX-7 and now a 2008 GSXR-750. Still, my 500 was a fun and forgiving bike which became a little faster with a few mods.
Have fun,
Sammie

Congrats on the 500. You will love it. I originally started on the 250 and although it is a small bike it still was a fun small bike to flick around. The 500 is east to flick around also and looks more or less the bigger version of the 250.
I suppose you want to go with this color scheme
either way stay rubber side down, try and wear more gear then just a helmet (scars are cool , but road rash just sucks ass) more importantly have fun and enjoy the ride

Welcome to SBN and to your new addiction!
Have fun on that bike, give yourself a season or two at least before moving up to the next level. Go to the new rider's forum here and absorb as much info as you can.
Have you taken a training course of any kind? MSF?

What she said.
Also, ride and ride and ride and ride. I grew up in Blacklick, near Gahanna, so I understand how crappy Ohio winters are. Since you probably won't be riding all winter, get as much riding in as you can during the other three seasons, and get so everything is completely second nature on a bike before moving to a 600. There's no real minimum number of miles, but if you are smart, you will keep the 500 for a few years and a whole lot of miles before changing to a different bike.
