(Title is a mistype its the GSX650F not 600F, and I can see how that can be confused with the GSX600R)
Hrm, I can't really decide between the two. Does anyone have some pros and cons about theses two bikes against each other?
I know the GSX650F is heavyer than the ninja, but I've read that you can barely notice it.
This will be my first bike and I will be riding around town and mostly hwys. I'm pretty set on the GSX650F, but does it have the get up and go if needed?
I haven't read a good thing about the GSX. Every review I've seen has it as a mediocre bike all-around. In comparisons I've seen between the SV650 and Ninja 650, the SV gets a slight performance edge but otherwise it's a toss-up.

I've read multiple reviews saying the GSX650F is a great all around bike
And I've read that the SV650SF is good for beginners also

The gsx650f really isn't a good bike. It has too much power for a beginner bike (around 85-90, I believe) and is very heavy. It's kind of like getting an SUV instead of a fun, nimble sports car. I don't think I would ever recommend the bike.
Both the Sv and the Ninja are good bikes, although they are still pretty powerful for a beginner, so be sure to be safe and responsible.

This sounds about right to me, but I'm biased.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).
the GSX650F shares nothing with the Katana other than it occupies the same spot in Suzuki's lineup. it is a heavy bike and i'm not sure if i would recommend any of the 650's to someone with no riding experience. i agree with everything else though

Maybe DarkRyder can chime in...or maybe you should send him a PM. He recently got a GSX650F so he might be able to shed some light on this issue from experience.

What about a GS500F. They are fast enough for any beginner and the handling is amazing because the bike is so light and nimble. You can also get a new one like I did for around 4200. Can't beat that and its plenty fast trust me.
650r's not that heavy... or at least it doesn't feel that way compared to a lot of other bikes that i sat on. for example, the sv650s for one feels more top-heavy than the 650r to me, as does my friend's fz6... a lot of it isn't just how heavy the bike is, it's where the weight is and where you are in relation to the weight...
