First Bike Night went to hell
Ok so you have all read my past post on the morons I call "friends" that ride bikes. Well I finally had a night off and was able to attend the weekly bike night at a local resurant/bar last night. I have been told over and over my ninja 500 will be fine and will be accepted into this group. That lots of the bikes that come are crappy or old so I thought what the hell I'll go... Well I get there and there are zero bikes that are any less than 600 gsxr's and CBR's. Almost all are within 2 years old. GREAT I really stick out in this bunch. Well finally we all jump on our bikes and head out. I was told early on stay in the back some guys are jerks and very dangerous to ride with so there I was in the next to last slot in a group of 50 or more bikes...
We get going and all is well till we hit interstate where I look up and I am almost completly alone except seeing the last 3 bikes I was close to leaving me in the dust and I was well over interstate speed.. 85-95mph!!! WTF?? Yes they are well experience riders.. YES they have better bikes.. YES they are used to taking the big curves at 145 and up.. But DAMN IT I personally knew one bike and he swore he would hang back with me because I was not prepared to ride that fast yet and who cared we all knew where we were going and we would just meet them all there.
Well that shit hit the fan in the first quarter mile. I refuse to operate my bike, ( No matter how cool or shitty it looks) in a manner I feel I cannot handle or in a way that I feel would put others in danger. Here I go pulling into the meeting point 5 minutes or more behind the pack like an ass who isnt on a liter bike or has "balls" enough to hang with the big boyz.. Well you know what they can bite me because Im not ready or skilled enough to ride like that yet. Everyone has to start somewhere and I have started the right way I think. Anyways just wanted to blow off some steam and tell yall how my first " Group Ride/ Bike Night" went.

I don't think it went to hell. You did the right thing and ended up coming home in one piece. Also, you learned that the guy(s) who told you that they wouldn't ride hard and stay back with you are dickheads, so you won't be wasting your time with them again. The night sounds like "great success" to me, to quote Borat Sagdiyev.

Sounds like a pretty large group of morons to me. The public roads are no place for that level of stupidity. They need to learn to ride at a track if they want to go that fast. I hope you don't plan on keeping these friends. Eventually the cops will sting them, and when they do, a few people are sure to die.

Uhhhmmm,
I understand your delima, Find new friends and go riding while your old friends are drunk and recovering from their hangovers the next morning>G<
Bike nights , alcohol and high speed night riding is for those who dont know any better.

There was no alcohol allowed.. Thats a plus and here in MS we aint got any tracks to ride on. So if you wanna really ride and push the limits of your machine its the highway or not at all. Sad really but thats life. Yes they will still stay "friends" of mine but Ill never ride with them again. Well not for quite sometime anyways. I was proud of myself for not killing myself trying to please the people who I didnt even know. Ill take the whispering and weird eye contact if thats what it means coming home safe at the end of the night. I split when we got to that first rest stop while the rest of them took off for another few hours of riding. I just couldnt handle that type of riding. My adrenaline pumps hard enough just testing MY limits not the limits of others.

Couple of years ago I noticed a big drop off of sport bikes out in the curves. It might have something to do with so many in iraq, there is a big Army base to the North. Could be cops have tighten the NOOSE. I saw about 12 sportbikers riders in handcuffs a couple years back.
But I asked a friend who rides a husaba about it , slightly younger than me who still (Hangs), and he said they are all out running the street at night, but he doesnt do that.

It takes a lot of balls to know when to back off and ride your own pace. Good job - find a better set of friends.

Don't get too butt hurt about it. And 85-95 isn't too fast if they were on a 4 lane freeway, or an "interstate" as you call it. If you're too scared to ride with a group, just admit that to yourself and ride alone until you're ready. Don't act like they're hating on you just because you have a different bike and are new. Just a guess, but sounds like you may have an attitude problem.

I'd say 85-95 is still pretty damn fast.
Anyway I'd agree that you should just shrug it off and I think you're taking it too close to heart. If you don't feel comfortable riding like they do, then don't and go at your own pace - our MSF instructor said "ride your own ride."

Congrats at not riding over your head. If you ever feel uncomfortable, slow down until you do but you usually cant expect anyone to wait up for you though on "night rides". Aroung here, the saying is "dont be last" on night rides because EVERYONE knows that it's every man for themselves if police come. It sux for newer riders or people with slower bikes because the cops usually get whoever they can. Like mentioned, stop riding with those people because they are gonna keep riding like that and you will be the one getting caught. Find some other more subtle riders and have fun at your own pace. Be safe

If you think thats fast, wait until you hop on a liter bike lol. You can add about a 100 to that 85
Either way, 90 is still enough to rip off skin

Thats a bit of an unnecessary paranoid defeatist attitude you have. I would consider that a fun night minus not being able to keep up with them.

bike nights= jackass/squid magnets.
I went to ONE, and that was the end. I didn't want to associate with that type of crowd.
