Default what bike

Hi I am 15 years old. I was wondering what bike I should start saving for. I am getting my m1 next year. My dads friend who teaches the motorcycle course told me not to get a 250 because I have some experience because i am rinding dirt bikes, and he went riding with me today. He told me to look at a 500, or a sv650. So I am looking at the sv650s as my first bike. Do you thing that it would be a good bike for me to get? If you recommend a different bike other then a 250 then tell me.

Thx for your help.

Do you have graduated licensing in Canada? If so, look smaller. If any bike is OK, then I'd suggest a 500.

I suggest you get some time out on the road in a car before buying a bike. I know you don't want to hear that and that you have someone telling you different, but there is a big difference between riding a dirtbike and riding a bike on the road.

I think its always better to learn how traffic works from the realitive safety of a steel cage.

Don't people read the stickies anymore.

Whats wrong with "kids" these days thinking that they can just hop on a sub 5sec 0-60 machine before they even are halfway thru HS

I know you are dying to get out there on the streets but I really think you(or anyone) should drive a car for at least a couple years before even thinking about getting out there on a bike. There is so much stupid behavior by drivers that you need to learn to watchout for. Even just learning how traffic moves takes time. I think dirt riding helps alot in learning how to operate a bike(controls, balance, etc) but it is so different on the street. Braking, accelerating, making turns is all different. Then to throw in all you have to learn about traffic. It's just too much all at once for a beginning rider(or driver).

Yes, the SV is a great starter bike. This is the last year they'll be making them new, but there are a ton of used ones. I'd suggest buying used.

At 15 I would say stay away from a bike until 17. Get a solid year of driving experience to learn how people really act on the road. Then I would suggest the '08/'09/'10(since those will be out when you're 17) 250R or a GS500F.

Yes, drive on the street before getting your bike. I started driving at 16, got my bike at 24 (3 days before I turned 25), and what you learn just from driving is a tremendous help. Just because driving and riding aren't the same, doesn't mean the traffic is different.

I am going to wait till the end of grade 12, which I would be 17 and then I would buy a bike.

I started riding when I was 15 and I survived. I would say get the suzuki gs 500F but the new kawi 250r looks so good id also consider that one.

You can survive, of course.. but don't you think it'd better better to have a few driving years under your belt? A lot of first time drivers are unsure in their cars, would be much more dangerous on a bike. Either way, i'm sure it's ok, but he said he'd wait till he was 17 anyway.

Just be careful out there man. People seem to love to merge into your lane.
