Hello from Memphis, TN

I've always wanted a bike and with gas prices right now I want one even more!
I'm active on some other internet forums like xbox-scene and a money-saving forum, but this is my first step into the world of speedbikes. From browsing the threads here (very helpful!) I've come up with 3 choices of what seem to be good starter bikes: Suzuki Bandit 600s, Suzuki GS500f, and Kawasaki Ninja 250r.
What can I expect to pay for one of those? I'm a pretty patient, frugal person so I can wait for the right price for the right bike; I won't ride until I take the MSF anyways. Any suggestions besides ebay, craigslist, and local paper? Also, if I'm buying a used bike what are some things to look out for so that I don't accidentally buy a pos?

Cycletrader.com I'd expect to pay around 2300ish for a pre 2008 ninja 250. Good luck with your choice. Don't forget to factor in the price for gear!

Welcome to SBN!! I'm not sure the Bandit is a great first bike as it's heavy, but quite fast.

Take a look in the for sale section in the TN section of this site. Folks there may also be able to help you out directly.

Ride safe and have fun, but beware that owning a bike isn't necessarily inexpensive.
