Default This is going to take some getting used to....

Riding my new-to-me 04 Ninja 250, that is.

I finally got insurance and a temp tag for it, and today I took it on the street for the first time. It's going to take some adjusting after coming from older bikes.

I've had 3 bikes in the past few years I've been riding, the newest being an 81 Honda. I'm used to low revs, bad brakes, strange handling, and sitting very upright.

The thing I'm really going to have get accustomed to is the rpms. This thing doesn't come 'on boil' until like 9 or 10K! Hell, just cruising around my neighborhood, maybe 25 mph, the thing is churning at 5-6K! It's a stark contrast with my older bikes, which didn't get revved over maybe 6500 rpm.

It's a different experience, to be sure. Hell, my last bike had drum brakes on both ends! The Ninja definately has it covered in the stopping department!

Nick,
Enjoyin' it so far...

Welcome to 21st century technology. Yep, pretty much everything has been improved on bikes over the years.

Ride safe and have fun.

Well, not exactly 21st century...isn't the '04 still based off of the '88?

I traded with a buddy of mine that has an R6. Going from my Triple that makes torque around 5k to the 16,000 RPM screaming bitch was a hell of an adjustment. That tach was LOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGG. Fun little bike, but my back just wouldn't stand up to it.

Screwed up when you have a hard time keeping up with your own bike. Road was so tight I couldn't keep the little shit in the power band off the corners.

Anyone else notice that the Ninja 250s transmission feels a little 'clunky' compared to other bikes? Maybe I'm just used to my old Honda, but it seems this one is a little on the notchy side. Not missing shifts notchy, it just seems like it doesn't have as smooth an internal mechanism as some other bikes.

I don't know, it could be me. I'm not used to shifting at 9K all the time!
