Default New to bikes... looking for a suitable one

As stated in the title I am new to bikes and am looking for a good bike... not just to start off in but to be able to keep as I advance into riding (mostly because I really don't want to buy a bike and get used to riding it then have to sell it because I want a better one, that would get expensive)

Right now I am looking at 2 bikes... both 600+ (I would like a hayabusa but that's a little out of my price range)

The first one is a Kawasaki Ninja650R

And the other is a Yamaha YZF-R6

Anyone have any opinions on these bikes or any other suggestions?

(please don't say go for a bike with less power because as I said I want one that I can hold on to)

Ohh by the way I am 5'9" and weigh 160

A Ninja 250 would certainly be suitable in your case. I am 5'11'' and about 190 lbs. and I can ride one just fine and have fun on it. I'd suggest you check the insurance costs (comprehensive coverage, not just liability) on the bikes you've listed and then rethink whether or not they're still in your price range and whether buying a less powerful, more reasonable first bike and then trading up in a few years is still the more expensive route.

I asked because most people around your age would rather Ride first than learn how to drive.

bikes don't lose there value much. get a small bike to learn or you have a larger chance of crashing or sucking at riding.

no... I have been around friends for a while who ride bikes... and I figured now that I am nearing 18 and can actually get my moto license it is about time that I stepped up and started riding with them instead of being the video guy.

I try to learn about everything before I start with it so I have been learning to ride on my friends bikes (gsxr, ninja, and hayabusa) but not as much as I would like to.

I don't want you to think that I am just another idiot kid that just wants to look cool and go fast, I really am going to be responsible on the bike (aka follow the speed limit) until I really know that I am going be able to do the stuff that I am attempting.

I'm not going to tell you what to buy but use some common sense first. Once you get the bike narrowed down get some insurance quotes and that will bring you back to earth.

Lol, you'd actually save money by buying one to learn on.

Plus, you're 17, you have PLENTY of time to get something bigger.

That's the smartest thing you have said so far.

If you're going for looks, you need to not ride a motorcycle. First you were like "I want something big" Now you're going "I want a 250, because the 500 is ugly". You have to ask yourself, "Should I really be riding a motorcycle?".

What's uglier, a 500 or no bike at all?

I think that ya'll need to quit bashing on me, all I asked for is a little help and in return all I get is a bunch of b/s!

All I want is a good mix of looks and a decent size!

The 250 is a really small bike, but i do like it.

I will never do the 110 that a 250r can do but i would like to get there a little faster than it will do.

Ya'll talked me out of getting a 600 and now the range I am looking for is 300-500 and i really cant find a bike that I like in that area, really is there anyone that can give me a suggestion and not sit there and make an @$$ of themselfs?
