New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
While certainly more manageable than most current 600s, I would say not the greatest starter bike. I'd go for a newly redesigned Ninja 250. If you *must* have a 600 class bike to start, check out the Ninja 650r. It is a parallel twin FI machine, and does not have all the top end that the ZZR does. The FI makes the throttle seem smoother IMO. I have ridden both, so I'm not just guessing...
Do yourself a favor and get used, because drops are costly, and insurance is high enough on sportbikes without having claims. Most people have a few mishaps on their first bike, and doing it on a less-than-perfect used bike will be much less painful that on a shiny new bike.
If you are set on the ZZR, look for a 98-02 ZX6r instead. They are essentially the same bike, but that way you can buy cheap and not have as much invested in the bike.

no! i have a zzr600 and it's not a very forgiving bike the it's still a ninja zx600j
it just has 2"bar risers and the rearstes are just lower and up more
Must be nice to have rich parents. But anywho, to answer your question, WAY too much power. Hell get a car first, no scratch that, get a drivers license first, wait no, I lied again, LEARN TO DRIVE PROPERLY first. Then you can go and get a nice bike. hah, I'm so nice.

In the boards opinion would the ZZR be a comparable bike to the F4i?
I thinking 600 class bikes that were at one point race replicas of their respected time?
Yes it would in the sense that it is no longer the flagship SS, but it is still very much one.
I just got an F4 and while not a hard bike to ride its far more willing to go fast whenever you get on it. Also the problem with these bikes is they inspire such confidence in you that if you don't have prior riding skills you may press your luck because you "think" you know what you're doing when really the bikes excellent suspension is masking your mistakes.
Its far easier for me to lean my F4 over at spead in turns vs my 250 because its more planted etc but if I didn't already know my limits that could become a problem.
Stick to a true non supersport bike like an SV650 or Ninja 650 if you have to have something that looks cool.

If you are dropping your hard earned cash looks are important. Not bashing the 250 or 500, but they just dont do it for me. On the flip I am a brand new rider, but I am not 16 and no want to push my limits. So I think I will befine on a 650.
To the OP, my buddy just picked up a zzr. Im sure he will chime in when he see ths thread. He is a experenced rider, and now that the bike it running smooth I know it made him say wow a couple times.

I need more on this ......talk more about the suspension masking mistakes?
Becuase honestly it seems that you're simply just re-stating what is means to ride a supersport? You would obviously be able to have better suspension and lean with an SS versus a starter 250 or SV...I mean wouldn't that be the point of building a high performance machine? Better overall?
I'm not saying this to in anyway discredit what you are saying because I kinda see the light at the end of the tunnel, I just need you to pull me through so that I can grasp the concet more firmly....
