New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
Was wondering if anyone has been able to get a hold of one of the new Ninja 250R's lately? I've contacted all the dealerships around my area, and all say basically the same thing, they don't have any in, you can put a $500 deposit down to reserve a bike for when we do get them in, however Kawasaki doesn't tell us when they are going to be sent, and so we don't know how long it'll be till we get them...could be next week, could be next month.
Anyone know why this his happening? Yes I know the demand is high, but don't you think Kawasaki would start producing them more, and be selling more bikes and making more money? Instead of having waiting lists at every dealership in the country? Do you think they'll start making more and they'll become more readily available? or will they remain a scarcity.
Doesn't make sence to me...I don't want to sit around waiting for months wondering whether or not my bike is going to come in...just sucks because there are no other bikes that I'm intersted in unless its a 600+, and I'm not going to buy a 600cc for my first bike...

They sent what they thought would be enough, and it turned out it wasn't. The dealer I used to work at had every one they were due to get in with a deposit on it two weeks after the announcement

Yea, Kawasaki didn't make enough for the US market. Every one was bought right off the bat. So Kawasaki has to import more of them... Who knows how long it will take.
I was talking with the owner of my Kawi dealer, they're out in BFE and he was saying that he was getting calls from all over the country looking for one. He sold out just like everyone else. Says he's not able to get any more til maybe Sept.
If you really want one bad, there are usually a few on ebay. Just make sure it's a legit deal, most of them should still be under warranty, but they also usually go for more than the MSRP on there. You'd also probably have to get it shipped too so figure that in and decide if its worth it
..also saw a couple on craigslist, but I think I might wait until next year to see if they come out with the ZX-2R or if Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki come out with their own 250's, at the rate the new 250R's are selling I wouldn't be surprised and I don't see why they would let Kawasaki own that whole market, even though they always have before. But hopefully this redesign and the way they are selling so fast opens up their eyes to the fact that there is a huge market out there for a cheap sporty beginner bike, especially with the gas prices going through the roof.
ok so i guess ill end of having to buy one from a private party...but I have two options...
buy one from a private party...and wait about a month and a half to have the money to buy it and spend about $4,200...or should i buy my bike in about a week and get a used 2006 or 2007 Ninja for $2400 to learn on, so if i drop it it didnt cost me as much and its not such a pretty bike.

Usually all the bikes of a given model year are shipped to the states all at once. If the demand is higher than expected, they sell out. September is the earliest the '09s might arrive.

If anyone can get one, they can. Plus their prices are usually the best in CA.
They quoted $4499 OTD (MSRP is $3499). Supply and demand in the summer.
Yeah, I was finally able to get them on the phone...they said they don't have any in, but they should be getting 1 or 2 next week. I'm only 17, and my parents said if I can come up with $2,400 they'd give me the remaining $2,000 as a loan. (I got quoted $4,399 OTD) so I still have to talk to my parents, but I'm probably going to go down tommorow, put money down to hold the bike, and then pay in full in the next week when it gets in...
Thing is...As I said, I'm 17, and I don't have a permit or a license, so I'm assuming I won't be able to get insurance on it until I get my license, which won't be till my 18th Bday on July 6th. So It'll sit in my Garage until then...or can I get insurance on it with just a regular C license?

Your parents should be able to insure the bike under their policy. I don't think anyone will check to make sure someone has an M1 endorsement. You can't get insurance on your own anyway until you're 18. Rates under your parents' policy will be lower. Just don't ride a bike on the road without a proper license.
I didn't see any mention of the MSF course. Highly recommended and it makes getting your license easier.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).

OK, I'll have to have my parents insure it then, and yeah I was planning on getting the permit if I get the bike next week so I can ride it for 2 weeks till I get my license (already have an appointment to go down and take the written test)
As far as the MSF goes, I took it this past weekend and graduated it.
I've got the MSF done, just about all my gear, and now once I get my bike I need to get some good pants and ill be good (got helmet, leather jacket and really good gloves)

Congrats on getting the 08. I wish I had waited, they're so sweet looking. But, I got the last 07 at my dealer and it was on a nice sale. I couldn't resist. I'm glad I did though, I'd probably never have gotten one if I didn't get the 07... my dealer said they probably won't get any til the 09 model.
