too green to give advice?
Here's the deal. I've been riding my 250 for little over 7 months with just over 3.5k miles with a fair mix of twisties, city and highway riding under my belt.
So last night, I met up with a guy to deliver my old helmet which he agreed to buy on C.List.
So as we're shootin the shit, I ask him what he rides. His response was a Kawi Vulcan 800 followed by the line ' its my first bike' and that he needed the helmet cause he wanted to practice over the weekend
So I asked him besides the helmet, did he have any other gear. He said no cause he didn't know where he could get stuff. No mention of MSF.
I told him the names of some local shops and was half tempted to just give the guy my old street gloves for no charge.
Long story short, I just told him to be careful with the throttle, and everything else I could remeber hearing here and elsewhere. Also said if he wanted some pointers, we could meet up and I'd show him some drills I remember from MSF.
Now I know here the rule is that rookies ain't supposed to be teachin other rookies shit - kinda like the blind leading the blind - but I dunno, feel like I should do SOMETHING to help the guy out.
Oh, didn't even try to talk him out of the vulcan - not my place and he already bought the damn thing.

Cause its a cruiser...800cc is a lot no? Just wonderin
its more comparable to the ninja 250. one of the things very misunderstood is CC for a bike. a honda VTX 1800, though 1800 ccs, is no where near a CBR600RR in performance, even though its 1800cc v. 600cc. many cruiser riders think that they should go to a liter bike, because they were riding a 1500 cruiser.
Yeah, an 800cc bike actually isn't that bad of a bike for a first timer. One of the guys I work with just got an M50 and he loves it. Doesn't seem like he's having any problems.

To answer the original question about n00bs trying to help other n00bs, it's OK as long as you know what you don't know. If someone can benefit from your experience, great. Showing him MSF drills in a parking lot is a far cry from taking him out on the roads up in the hills.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).
I agree with Ray. I don't think there is any problem win helping out people newer than you as long as you tell them that you are pretty new yourself. Steering them towards places where they can get info and learn how to be safe is never a problem.
If your 100% postive the information your giving him is sound. IE: from experience or from msf class. Then sure help a fellow squid out. But if your not sure. Keep door closed. Other then that, the best advice you as a squid can give anyone. Is Take The MSF BRC and Have A Great Day!

Well said.
And yes the 800 is about equivilent to your bike but probably easier to ride.

glad to see you're one of the ones who cares, a friend of mine got an f4i as his first bike, didnt know dick about riding or bikes in general. tried to ride it up and down his driveway and looped it, called me and said wtf and i went over to check it out....fuckin thing had a sprocket as big as a basketball on it, all i could do was laugh
I think an ideal learning situation would have a seasoned riding veteran and someone with about a year's worth of riding experience. Some times as the miles add up veterans will forget what they are doing because it is second nature and don't have to think about it. A newer person still has to consciously think about the patterns.
