Default Getting back into riding

Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm considering getting back into riding. I started riding in 02 on a kana-tuna and put about 24k miles on it, mainly from commuting and weekend canyons runs. Had to sell the bike to pay some bills in 05.

With the growing riding population here in So Cal, I've been wanting to rejoin the bandwagon.

I've been eyeing the early model F4i, R6's, and GSX-R, but for sure I would want an F4i.

Question is, should I consider starting all over and go the MSF route and start on a smaller bike?(CC wise)

I keep thinking that the F4i would be ok because when I was last riding I was very confortable in the canyons even with the Kana-tuna, but something in the back of my head tells me otherwise. What does you guys and girls think?

Main use will be for weekend cruising, canyons, and possible track days in the future.

Go Lakers!!!

If it's only been 3 years since you had the Katana, you should be fine on the f4i. It will be a lot quicker than the Katana, though. If you didn't take the MSF course before, that would be a good idea.

You didn't mention where you lived when you had the bike, but watch the traffic in LA.

I live near Long Beach (Southbay Area), and use to commute 30 miles each way to school in Pomona.

I did take the MSF class back then. I know theres an advanced MSF class for experienced riders. Anyone have any feedback on that or would reccomend it?

I got back into riding after a 15 year layoff and I bought a bigger bike than I had when I quit riding. I went from a '78 Suzuki GS550 (inline 4)to a '96 Nighthawk 750 (inline 4). The Nighthawk was heavier and more powerful, but it wasn't a problem. You should be fine with an F4i or something similar.

The F4i will be at least 100lbs lighter and significantly more powerful, but you'll probably be able to handle it. Just be damn sure you're looking the right direction when you pull the trigger.
