New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
I had the good fortune of taking a gsxr 1000 for a spin tonight. Holy CRAP!!! Who in their right mind would want a bike that fast for street use!?
Let me preface this a little. I ride a 2008 Ninja 250. I wring that things neck everywhere I go, I love it. I knew starting on a 600 or 1000 was a stupid idea so I bought the 250 and love it.
I rode that 1000 down the street tonight, and hit fifth gear, I was at 100 mph before I could blink. I could BARELY twist the throttle without nearly flying off the face of the planet!!. I realize this seems like such a noob post, since most of you ride supersports every day. But being a noob myself, all these other noobies who think "hey, I'll start on a big 1000 cuz it looks cool." They have NO IDEA. The acceleration is INSANE. It's like Hyperdrive.
I no longer want a litre bike. I was thinking about upgrading to an 08 ZX10r cuz that bike is sexy as hell. But now I've lost interest. What's the fun of riding a bike when you can only turn the throttle three milimeters before you're in triple digits???

Apart from that, this place is squid heaven, you think the US is bad, times that by a hundred and thats Cyprus for you. The norm is to start on the newest 1000 and you see so many hayabusas everywhere. 600 is for pussies. And its a bloody hot country with 6 months of the year spent at 100 degrees and everyones riding these bikes in swimming trunks and flipflops. The island is less than 150 miles wide so you can imagine the insane traffic with people racing everywhere leaving us with the 3rd highest road accident fatalities rate in the world. I've been on twisty rides and i've been passed by lunatics on gsxrs taking blind curves using the opposite lane. These guys seriously have missing screws in their brains and its no joke...
No track either...

if you were in 5th and only doing 100 you were lugging it! imagine how fast you could go in 1st or 2nd if you twisted up the revs!!!
but your right, liters are too big for the street

Thank you for taking over the title of squid capital of the world from Florida!

Most I-4 liter bikes will do 100 in first (tall gear to help keep the front wheel on the ground). Throttle control is a must to learn. I still have to really pay attention when pulling away from a stop light through a left turn with lots of bumps in the road.
After some more time you may come to realize that you don't have to get another Kawi.
