Default What I've learned in my first week on a bike..

1. The wind is an asshole when riding at 70mph.

2. little kids start jumping up and down in their yards and screaming
when they see the bike go by.

3. Ninja 500 sounds like a weedwacker at lower rpms.

4. Dogs really 'like' me.

5. Ninja 500 mirrors are worthless. 650r mirrors on the way.

6. daily driver Hyundai feels like an invincible armored tank now.

7. Perforated leather is good. Not so much under 25mph.

8. Expensive comfortable helmets are worth every $.

9. Even people walking don't pay attention to bikes.

10. Tank bags are good.

I'll add more as they come to me!

I'll add more as they come to me!
1. Its even worse at 100mph

2. Ya, kids are cool

3. My FZ6 sounded like a pissed off mosquito before the carbon Two Bros

4. My dog is afraid of my bike and my leathers

5. Who needs mirrors? If you're going fast enough, EVERYTHING is behind you!

6. My Jetta IS a tank. Its just not invincible.

7. Bet its not as comfortable at a tank top and flip flops! j/k

8. +1 Heads are expensive, protection is worth any cost. Even Arai-cost.

9. Good, the less dirty looks we get the better.

10. Tank bags: The ultimate man-biker-purse. Love mine!

+1 to perfed leather being nice at speed, but not so much below 25 mph. And at a long light, it's almost enough to make you want to take your chances and run through an intersection.

Almost.

No matter how narrow the gap in your open shield is, something will find it's way in.

The mirrors are fine. You should try to adjust them, they aren't automatic like in your car.

There is an upside to sitting at a long traffic light while sweating in your perforated leathers...you get to accelerate and the "natural" air conditioning kicks in...

+100. Sometimes when i'm leaving the gas station, I'll stand there just a little bit longer to sweat a little more and then take off, feels sooooo goood. Almost cold even.

Two helmet related things I learn first week of riding:
It is easy to forget theres a helmet in the way when you go to pick your nose.
It is harder to drink from a water bottle without taking your helmet off and without looking silly.

If I was a 5'7 girl, adjusting them would matter.
Unfortunately I'm a 6'5 man, and all I see is elbows no matter what.

You're about on track for the first week.

Next learn two things:

How to wheelie on command. Kids really love it.

Know what you don't know and the limits of your skills. You'll stay rubber side down longer.

Ride safe and have fun.

It doesnt matter how tall you are. I think they design the mirrors to look at elbows.....designers must have an elbow fetish

I still can't wheelie on demand.
