Default Want to start riding....what kind of bike?

Hello I've decided I want to learn how to ride and eventually get my own bike. I plan on buying my own once I get back from my deployment next year because I'll have plenty of money saved up. I plan on taking a riding course in town with their trainer bikes which are mostly 250's. My only question is this....what size bike should I get once I buy my own?....being a beginner and all. I've had lots of people tell me that I should get a ninja 250r to learn on since I'm a beginner, However, I'm I'm 6 foot 5 inches tall and I don't know if that would be big enough. Any help? I think the 250 would be a good idea I'm just not too sure about it because of how tall I am. Any suggestions on what size bike? Thanks

500's ar not bad. Most will freak if you talk about getting a 6oo. But if you get an older one 80s 90s. Id stay away from fuel injected. I tought my wife to ride on my old 88 600 Hurricane (that is all I had) And now she rides an 600 F4I +my 929 and we are teaching her 19yr old sister on the same bike. With no problems yet. Good luck.
And Thanks for serving.

Wait until you get back to Dyess and get fitted for gear first. I'm sure you know you'll have to take the base MSF BRC course anyways so you'll learn on one of their bikes. After that go to a local Kawasaki dealer and actually sit on the Ninja 250 before passing any opinions on it. You may not be able to "test" ride it, but at least you'll get an idea how you'll fit.

Once again the I'm probably too tall for a 250. Bullshit. It's not a fiddy, it's a full sized bike, just about the exact same size as the SS or liter bikes. Biggest difference is it won't do 75-100 MPH in 1st gear.

Do you think that the old 250's would be a little small for outrageously tall people (namely refering to the OP)? I know that the new 250 isn't too small for a big guy, but I remember sitting on my friend's older gen 250 and thinking it was a little small. Namely, my knees were positioned pretty high up.
