Default 1000 miles and counting

Hey guys. today i rode passed my first 1000 miles and it wasn't as climactic as i expected but i'm still proud. so i just wanted to share some thing about what i've learned and where i want to be.

1. my first bike was a ninja zx7. great bike but dumb move. i got a killer deal on it as to one of the reasons i got it. but made learning so much more difficult. for the other n00bs who want a supertbike. i have to say my back and wrist aches. and especially in traffic it's a pain in the ass to be hunched over. also very difficult to manouver in low speed. my next bike will def be a sport or standard.

2. invest in the right gears. makes things easier and of course safer. at first i was riding in sneakers and street jackets cuz i was being a cheapo. the tight fitting riding jacket diverts the wind making higher speeds so much easier.

3. take your time and practice and practice. there's no rush to go fast. just keep riding and it will come with time. i treat riding like any other sport. i practice and become a better safer rider.

4. i think i'll need at least 4000 miles to not feel like such a n00b.

happy riding!

Good tips man.

I definitely have no problem taking it slow. I'm really a noob... only 150 miles on my 07 Ninja and I know I have a LOT to learn. It's better to go at a slow pace than kill yourself trying to take off on it.

Congrats on your 1k!

Another beginner here, almost 5000 miles under my belt since march and it sure has been a blast. Its just incredible realizing you're actually learning so much and at such a pace and getting comfortable on the bike, no more worrying about slow 90-degree turns, much better anticipation of road hazards specific to bikes as opposed to what you used to notice while driving a car and much better throttle and clutch control. I know I'm still a million miles away from "proper rider" but I can't wait to have ridden another 3 months and see how much i've learnt by then and how riding feels.
And thank god I got a bike I can fully crack open the throttle on the twisties and not have to fear the bike itself and instead concentrate on proper riding techniques and road hazards (to all the noobs on SS bikes who have to have to worry about the power )

i just passed my 20mi mark and i feel like i've learned a lot. the last three weeks i've been spending weekends in parking lots and doing low speed maneuvers.

i got my permit last week so i took it out on the road for the first time and what a difference. i've still got a lot to learn, but its so much fun.

luckily for me i've been riding a 250 standard bike, so its much more forgiving on your back and wrists and much easier to learn on. right now i'm looking for a older 600cc bike and i still have to take my safety course.

Look for mileage before you look for a 600. Just sayin'.
