New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
So I went for after riding for roughly two hours today, I realized that my ears were in DESPERATE need of ear plugs. My ears were starting to ring a bit, and I started getting worried, so I pulled into Rite Aid, picked up ear plugs and MAN what a difference. It's like a night and day difference. You hear the wind a LOT less (Rated for 30 decibels less) while still being able to hear horns and what-not. I could barely hear the engine on my 250 at 10,000 RPMs.
Only downside is conversations with people, you can't hear crap.
Figured I'd make a recommendation to wear ear plugs to you guys.

I've never been one to ride with ear plugs or headphones, I just don't feel safe.
That said, protecting your hearing is always a good message - my ears ring all the time these days, but I suspect its from guns, heavy metal and working in the ship's engine room for years.

wow thats the first time i ever heard someone saying that they wear ear plugs. wow i really never thought about it i guess. out of all the bikers i know which is alot i never saw or heard them talking about ear plugs. i like to hear my pipe and also enjoy hearing everything else around me. damn helmet alone seems like that should be enough hearing loss right there.but hey to each is on

The ear plugs actually do good at cutting out the constant wind noise. You'd probably be suprised how well you can actually still hear your bike.
If I'm just going around town I won't put them in because I'm usually not going fast enough to get all that wind noise, but out on the highway they are always in.
The ringing in your ears is your ears accomodating to sounds beyond the decibel range of the human ear, and is in essence a warning system to say "stop doing this to your ears jackass!" Ear plugs are a great way to filter out high frequency noise (wind) without filtering out lower frequency noises like your engine and other cars around you. Unless I am going only a few miles, I religiously wear my ear plugs for every ride. In all honesty, I feel that I can hear the bike better with my ear plugs in that without, especially at highway speeds.
(I-Pod) Volume half way up, on shuffle, wires tucked into jacket. I keep it on the inside pocket so I can press the stop button if needed through the exterior skin of the jacket. Drowns out the noise and clears the mind. I saw a set of helmet I-POD speaker on the web they go for under $20.00.
I can't do a decent ride without them. In the city is ok, but if I hit highway I have to have them or the damn wind drives me nuts. Do to my less than skinny stature I have to do alot of tucking at higher speeds or the wind drag kills me.
I actually like to lay on the tank as it makes me feel like I'm going faster and makes the experience alittle more intense. But the wind that was being deflected at my chest is now hitting me right in the visor and sounds 4 times as loud. Someone on another site did he own study on which ones were best(according to him) He tried like 5 or 6 of them. If I can find it I'll tag it here for you.
What do you guys think of noise cancelling headphones?

Thanks!
webBikeWorld has reviews on them, but I just bought whatever I could get my hands on today and I'll be ordering based on their referrals soon.

I use these on an airplane, but can't imagine them fitting into a helmet. If they made ear-bud style noise cancelling headphones, I'd consider them. If you can fit the regular ones in there, your helmet is too big.
My dad wears them, but he rides a 250 like you so his bike is usually really wound up when he's out riding with me. I never notice too much noise, I mean exhaust and traffic, but nothing that I would call annoying, but I also rarely ride freeway miles, pretty much everything around where I ride is connected by other streets which I prefer because I am obsessed with acceleration which you dont get to do much of on the freeway.
