Take the bike out to an empty parking lot and have fun! Don't worry so much about the clutch, people OVER EXAGERATE (sp?) how sensitive the throttles are. If you've ridden a dirt bike you will me fine. Just slowly get on the gas while slowly letting off the clutch.
Odd's are your going to look like a grasshopper for the first week until you can take off without both feet dragging.
rofl, thanks a ton bro, I appreciate the positive advice that is getting posted. I was afraid the bike was almost as hard to maneuver up at speed as it is at parking lot speeds

Have you checked insurance rates on a 1000cc bike being under 21? You may want to shop around first.

I LOVE THE BOX...had no problems with it...counterbalanceing makes it a snap but dont be afraid to put your feet down...rather put down the feet than dump my bike...

When i turned 18 i got a 1000 took it slow listened to advice and learned just fine. everyone is different! Hate when people come on here and assume if you get a 1000 your obviously going to get yourself in trouble. That’s bullshit.

I have seen just as many, if not more newcomers F’ themselves up on 250/600's then 1000's. yes, its usually some guy being an idiot or trying to prove something.. but
don’t assume, and say this guy isn’t responsible. That’s basically what your saying when you tell him its stupid to get a 1000 first bike.

Take it slow at first respect the bike and you will do just fine.

this seems to be how i feel, so far i've dropped the bike once, and that was while i was trying to take it into my carport, and i was trying to open the gate while still on the bike.

Anyway, the thing is great, love it. easy to ride, and it doesn't seem like it has as much power as all you guys thought. 135hp for 551 pounds, plus 200 pounds of rider, not as much power as even the new 600 rr's. anyway, i'm trying to decide now wether to paint it the stock colors or semi-gloss black and red. I was doing a bunch of body work on it, and I just primered it with semi-gloss black, and man, it looks hot. anyone have some opinions on what would make it worth more? I mean i know it's 20 years old, and I've had several guys stop me in parking lots and ask me all about it, which makes me think i should try to keep it as stock looking as possible. just fishing for opinions, anyone have some?
