New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
Hello! I'm interested in purchasing my own bike and was referred to this site by a friend who recieved lots of great feedback and advice before purchasing his first bike. I'm looking for something small but powerful enough to keep up with the group I ride with. I'm 5'3", 130 lbs. What would you recomend?

Try and get away from the mentality that you need a bike powerful enough to keep up with the group. If the group is smart and like most group rides I know, they have designated stopping points to allow other to catch up. Don't get pressured to keep up, that's where an accident will happen.
With that, start small, start used and start cheap.
Depends on how old R you and do you have any experience?
Ninja 250 or hyosung 250 if your a beginner

Everyone above is right. The 600cc machines are generally to much for a new rider. Something about the power to weight ratio of a Ferrari...with very unforgiving geometry.
Your height is going to be an issue since a lot of bikes pretty much require a 32" or better inseam. Run around and sit on everything they will let you to get an idea of what is comfortable.
DO NOT let it deter you. I've met women that we had to set up blocks in the pits so they could stop their bikes(no kick stands on track bikes) but had no issue tearing ass through the field.
Welcome
Edit: check out the Women Riders section, I'm sure the Pussy Posse would have more input....and less solicitation.
Hey now wait a minute, I havnt solicited yet.
Yet......................She definatly could ride with me anytime

First, don't go on group rides until you have a pretty good idea of what you are doing. If you do go out with a group, make sure it is people you know well, trust, and who understand you are learning. Practice as much as you can, and get some real training from an MSF class. Make sure you wear gear no matter how short the ride. All the usual things, I guess. Respect the bike, since even a 250 will outrun most cars.

I'm signed up for the MSF course in June, and wait-listed for an earlier class. From everything I've read on this forum, I'm super stoked about the course! I think I'll be perfectly happy with any 250cc, and that will probably be enough for me for as long as I ride. I am currently riding with a group as a passenger. I am very comfortable riding with them. I enjoy it so much that I want to get a bike of my own. They reffered me to this forum which is so informative! I'm learning a lot. Thank-you for the great advice!
I have a private one on one course Availible, Bikini is requird though.
