Starting Big...?
Okay, I've read all the stickys about starting small so please dont flame me for being a noob.
Now...
I've got a good deal on a 1000cc bike, stretched and lowered... I know the guy and he rode it every day. But this would be my first bike. and yes i understand the risk of injury and death. But, if i do take it easy is this really impossible to ride. I mean is it the weight or what. I do have a 500+ HP Corvette. Just thinkinig looking for some opinions. OR EXPERIENCES. Did you start with a Liter?
I did the math. Believe me. I used to be a math major, thats what i do. It was a question...
Okay, in that case I still definitely do not support the liter bike, now I have never ridden one, but I can draw conclusions from riding a 600 and thinking that it would be too much for a first bike that a liter would definitely be too much.
The stretched and lowered thing is also bad from what I've seen, as it messes with the handling.
I know that you are used to having a vehicle with a lot of power, but I just think something like that would be too touchy to start on. Even if you respect the power. From my experience very little translates over from driving to riding other than traffic law and knowing how to operate a manual transmission.
In the end it is your choice, but I really think you should not start out on this bike, personally I would hate to have it because not only is it too much power for me yet, but it sounds like the handling would be greatly diminished due to its modifications. So please do not get it, I think that you will not be happy with this bike and will regret your purchase.
Some inline 4 liter bikes (gsx-r 1000, cbr1000rr, r1, zx10r) will do close to 100 mph in first gear (it's a tall gear to help prevent you from looping the bike too often).
It's more like 400 lbs / 150 rwhp = 2.67 lbs / hp for a liter bike.
BTW, unless all you want to do is run the bike at the strip, why get one that's been stretched and lowered?

All i was doining was asking. I only figured the stretching and lowering would make it easier as the center of gravity was lower. I didnt know it would mess with other handling. so i will take all your advice and start small. But i see how easy it is to deal with the devil and go 250's too small... well 600's not much bigger than 500. and look at the deal on that 750. But safety becomes and issue. So this is where my personally resonsibility comes out and i decide 600 or smaller. hows that sound?
Starting on a litre would be like doing it with a 45 yr old hooker your first time - i mean... you just aint ready for that shit...
Seriously man - fast car is nothing like a fast bike - it takes a very different skill set -
Stretched and lowered = poor handling... it won't ride how its supposed to - all it can do is cruise in a straight line...
You are not the exception - there is a reason people say start small -
The skills need to be learned on something that will accomidate a learning rider.. a litre will kick your ass for each mistake.. not give you a warning...
