Default sorry for the n00b question

I am 20, and got my bike (SV650s) two days ago and need to insure it so I can start riding it.

I have not gotten a ticket in over two years (cage) and am a good student, attend an accredited college blah blah blah.

I also am getting LoJack installed on the bike and I have all the gear and what not.

I have two questions;

What insurance company should I use ( state farm seems to be the consensus) and what should my payments about look like?

I am looking for pretty much minimum coverage.

minimal coverage = you pay for everything. so unless you can afford essentially burning the money you paid, you may want to look at full coverage.

if you are a decent mechanic, then you may be able to forego full coverage.

i have 2 bikes insured thru progressive at $174 a year, but im not in the high risk bracket anymore. some other will be able to help ya more with numbers and recomendations.

My ex500 on progressive is about $400 a year

500k liability
500k uninsured

The quote for my zx-6e was around $500 a year

500k liability
500k uninsured
$100 deductible

The comprehensive was only about 50 extra a year.

Nobody will be able to tell you exactly what you'll pay as insurance rates are based on too many factors. Everything from age, sex, driving record, zip code and even credit play a factor in determining the rate.

Go online and get some quotes or contact and agent to get some as well.

That's true, just go to the progressive site if you want a quick quote, its a pretty easy and quick quote system.

There's an insurance sticky with a bazillion answers to that question. But, as was said, none of the answers will be the same as what you'll pay.

Go here:

They are an ins broker in the Atlanta area and can write you a policy with just about anybody. They'll also check with several ins companies to get you the lowest rate.

Insurance is priced by gnomes who wear thick glasses and think thoughts none of the rest of us can understand. The best advice I can give you is to shop around. Allstate insures my 675 for about $400/year with full coverage and high limits, but I am an old fart. Progressive was great for the Bandit I had before I got a sportbike about eight years ago, but they wouldn't insure a TT600. Harley Davidson insurance (no kidding!) thought it was a touring bike and gave me a great rate. Then Allstate came along and beat them after they figured it out a couple years later. Allstate love my neigborhood. All the other major insurance companies think it is a war zone.

Shop around. That's the moral of all this nonsense.
