gsx650f?
Hi everyone i'm new here and new to riding. I have very little experience riding on street but have been riding dirtbikes and quads for a while. I know it's 2 different worlds. I have read stickies about new riders should not get a 600 or higher but from what i take that as you guys are talking about gsrx, r6 and bikes like that. From what i have checked out about the gsx650f is that to my understanding it is not going to have the same kind of power as the 600's most of you are refering to....but i could be wrong about it. So here is my question do you think it would be a bad idea to go with the 650? Of all the bikes I sat on to test the feel and fit it is the only one that was comfortable to me.
Oh and i am going to be getting the gear and i will be taking the PA MSP program before hiting the streets.

You should be fine on it. The 600s we talk about here are supersport bikes, and learning on a supersport isn't the best idea. It can be done, but you will learn more and learn faster on a less powerful, friendlier bike. A Bandit isn't ideal, since it is a bit heavy and top heavy, but it has good ergos for learning and it isn't tuned to be a handfull no matter what like a supersport bike is.

I would say no for (the reasons that are repeated in the stickies) but mostly cause that bike is HHHHHHHHhheavy..... It's a tank man..

It's a Katana with a new face and some upgrades.
I have not yet had the chance to test ride one, but if it's anything like the Katana, I don't feel comfortable recommending it to a new rider. You'd be more comfortable and learn faster on a 500.

The GSXF is still an I4, it may not produce the HP or Torque of a SS, but it will still move very fast. It is also heavy, which will make learning slow speed maneuvers difficult.
Bikes I would suggest you look for, EX500, GS500, or maybe a SV650 or 650R

thanks for the input. i'll take a look at the gs500 when i'm up there next and possibly test both in the parking lot to get a lil bit of a feel. But the sv650's are out in my book just didn't feel comfortable on either model at all.

That seems to be the general consensus. I have heard alot of people who own 500s that they love the things to death. I know I was one of them when I owned mine.

Far be it from me to point you in any direction other than Suzuki...and specifically a GS500 which I think is an ideal beginner bike...but just to throw options your way have a look at the Ninja 650r.

thanks for the advice again everyone....i'm picking my bike up tomorrow morning. After trying out some other bikes i decided to go with the Ninja 650r. The 500's i looked at i just didn't feel comfortable on at all and the 650 seemed to fit me perfect i'll post some picks of it after i pick it up
