I'm not gonna make any promises about riding slow or being safe. I'm just gonna be at the mercy of God and ride at reasonable speeds. I fear bikes, the thought of crashing makes me cringe but at least I"ll have full gear including draggin jeans and oxtars (2 pieces of gear that most people overlook)

Did you bother watching that video on the semi that drove over the moped?
Gear works sometimes, in some situations, but a good part of the time it does not. I recently spent time at the University of Salt lake Medical center neuro ward, while I was there ,I talked to just about every doctor I could about what helmets worked, I got usually the same response "helmets do help keep the head intact to a non functioning body"
Have fun, twist that throttle alot, and hope your Imaginary friend upstairs keeps ya safe, Good Idea.

are you trying to say that i don't wear a helmet?
since you seem to think i plan on riding with my draggin jeans and oxtar boots only, bare chest hands and head, i'll go ahead and list my gear just for you everything is brand new. i refuse to buy a used helmet.
hjc cl-sp helmet
gmax gm68s crusader helmet
moto gp corkscrew jacket
moto gp rpm gloves
draggin jeans
oxtar tcs boots

Thats great, Im glad your wearing gear, my point is, on the street, gear only helps in some instances, you get ran over by a semi, do you think your helmet is gonna make a difference? NOPE, if you lose it on a corner and slam into a tree, do you think your leather jacket will save your bones from breaking like toothpics? Nope
I like gear, I think people should wear it, and IM happy you are, point is, with no experience at all jumping on a SS bike and admitting your planning on riding it like you stole it all the time, and thinking your gear will save you, Is just denial of reality.
Go to the video section and look at the video of the moped Vs Semi, see what happens.
I have said it before, I will say it again, one of my best friends was hit by a semi, by the time the semi got done running over him, and the four cars after the semi, he was pressure sprayed off the pavement, that is the sad reality of what can happen. you really think racing gear would save you from that? If you do, dont buy a bike.

when did i EVER say i'm gonna ride it like i stole it. i'm very scared for my life whether it's 250 or a 1000. i'm worried about other people hitting me rather than me going too fast
i'm just mentioning my gear cause i wanna say i'm a more informed noob than this guy for example: YouTube - My 2007 cbr 1000 repsol wheelie
edit: saw the semi vs. moped video and GOD DAMN that's what i'm really afraid of, idiots on the road, not as much as the mistakes that i'm gonna make.

Hey, i read your posts and thought i might inject my experience. I'm 22 now, been riding for almost 3 years. I started on a f3, and to be quite honest, i wish i had started on like a 250 or 500. I was looking for one, but none where around here and i could get the older 600 for cheaper. Well...i've been down twice, and even though i consider myself an adept rider, i payed the price for it. My buddy last year picked u a nice low miles 500r for 1700 w/ a brand new rear tire to put on. I suggest go that route, the twin makes more torque so you don't have to do that tap dance on the shifter, they're more comfertable, and it is lighter which translates in easier to get used to. The only complaint i had about it was the braking ablility, which can be modded. Those f2s and f3's will do ~150mph....and the 500r....~115, which is PLENTY fast enough. Seriously, for my next bike, I am considering something more along the lines of the 500r than another 600. Just my two cents.

if only they had redesigned the 500 as well, i'd buy it in about 2 seconds without any regard for any other bike

that's just a reason why i don't want a new 500r right now, what if they redesign it next year?
anyways,
if i find an '05 500r for a good price, i'll buy it. the other years colors are disappointing. can't deny aesthetics are important when choosing a bike, not to mention a lot of other things in life like cars clothes, ect...
