New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
Can one of the older Ninja 250's be a good track bike? A cousin of mine has 2000 and he's willing to sell it to me for $1000. He picked it up brand new, but his wife will not let him ride it. If I remember correctly his wife told me it only has 200 miles on it. I'm working with a friend to get it transported to a reputable bike shop to have it looked over.
I currently ride a Honda CB400, and its the first bike I've ever owned. Been riding at least 3 days a week since 23May2007, and I'm no retard wanting to get a 1000cc bike or anything. I would like something that I can ride to the track...take it out for the day....then ride it home. Is the track a good place for a 250cc? Or is only for 600cc and up bikes?
The bike will also be mainly in storage until I come home on leave. I just don't think I can pass up on a deal like this.

You can't. That's a steal if it seriously only has a couple hundred miles on it.
It would be a pretty good bike for learning to ride on the track.
I would snatch it up, even if you don't end up using it, because you can sell it for a good $500 at LEAST more than that if you want to.

Not bad at all for learning on the track and you'll have a blast either way. If you want to actually race though there aren't a lot of classes for 4-stroke 250's around although a lot may start popping up with the 08's coming out and the willow springs class.
I am building a 250 track bike right now. 2001 ninja 250 that was 150 bucks, getting rear sets, clip ons stainless lines, new suspension, jetting, pipe, filter and if i get extra bored this winter i might have custom pistons made to increase compression.
So yeah..... It can be done.

To the op, the 250 is a great learning tool on and off track. However, If you have some experience and already have a noob friendly bike, I would look into getting an older 600/SV650/Ninja500.
