New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
Just wanted to say thanks, I went from a 250 to 600
Hey guys whats up? I read a ton of stuff over the net saying to start small on a sport bike, and I had my doubts. But I started with a 250 Ninja anyways and it was SO easy to learn on, I felt like I learned things quicker just becuase of the bikes handling charateristics, lightweight ect... Now that I jumped to my 600, though VERY VERY different. I have the fundamentals down very well, which helped BIG time (with the help of books such as twist of the wrist, total control ect..). The only complaints I have was that I wish the 250's were shaped like and seat like the 600, I thought my legs were in good shape to squeeze that tank, but since the 600 has you so much more croutched over, it takes a lot more clamping force than what it took on the 250 (which seems to ride more like a scooter...but thats my opinion). I def recomend people listening to what these guys have to say about NOT starting on a 600/650/750!!! BTW I went from a Ninja 250 to a 96 Cbr600f3.
Yeah it's sensible to start small and work your way up. Learning fundamentals on a smaller CC bike has worked well for me. The advice given in this forum by the experienced riders is echoed in most of the other fourms I frequent. Glad I found this site as well

An thats odd you think its harder to squeeze a bigger bike with your knees. When I sit on them it feels more natural to squeeze but on the 2fiddy I feel like Im pushing my knees together with my feet apart, its kind of an unnatural squeeze.
Actually I purcahsed the bike LAST september when I returned home from boot camp, and put about 9,000 miles under my belt. And there is a big different in what I call "performance" miles and just miles. Most of my time spent riding, was on some twisty back road attemping to progress in my riding skill.

I understand what he's saying. On the 250, you don't need to squeeze the tank as hard because of the upright riding position and it doesn't hurt the wrists and back. But as soon as you jump onto an SS, you have to squeeze harder to keep your wrists, shoulders, and back healthy.
